Hi warriors,

I am based in the UK. I read somewhere recently that to attract uk based traffic it is best to have your website on a uk based server. Is this true.

If this is the case , does anyone know any good uk based hosting companies.

I use betterwebspace.co.uk - good customer service. I've used them since I started my first website.

Do all UK webhosts have servers located in the UK? I know a number of UK based webhosts which have servers located in the US and various other places.

Do your keyword research and working hard on your websites SEO is the only way to get organic traffic, IMHO server location is not really relavant.

It is true. If you are targeting UK traffic, it is better to host your site in a UK server.
I use JustHost in US. I know they have a UK site, what I'm not sure about is if they have servers in UK.

Well, I don't know how much truth that holds however I know there are benefits to hosting in UK if you're targeted to a UK Audience.

The immediate benefit that comes to mind is loading speed. If your host resides in UK and your visitors are from UK as well your site has the ability to load faster as compared to somewhere in US or Singapore.

In my opinion; if you know a definite you do not intend to attract other customers except those from UK then no harm hosting in UK. There are definitely benefits and I think your statement could hold some truth for couple reasons such as loading speed and some other more minor points but no harm hosting in UK.

The key is however finding a reliable and trusted host. Many hosting companies such as Host Gator and Host Dime I believe host in US datacenters but many have international data centers as well. Just give it a search.

    All the Best,
    Benjamin

    Hey,

I use D9 Hosting for all my websites, on a shared hosting account with unlimited bandwidth and domain names, but the beauty of this hosting company is it is run by two extremely successful internet marketers in their own rights, and in all honesty their customer support is second to none!

Paula Brett and Dan Thompson have been in the IM business for a number of years and use their expertise to help you in any way they can, if you need it?

Check it out here ==>> D9 _Shared Hosting<<==

You won`t regret it, trust me I have had quite a few hosting companies in my time, but these guys have been the best....John.

At least when you see a .co.uk extension you expect the business/website to relate to the UK and not the US.

You would have to check with the hosting companies where their servers are situated. I have switched to a company whose servers I understood were in the UK but now I am not so sure and will have to ask the question. In fact, I did this for another of my hosting providers this evening as I was having a problem and I did a Google search for how I could find the location of the server.

So I went to a site, posted in the IP address and although the hosting company's name ends in .co.uk the server with my website on it is in San Diego.

One reason for having two servers; one either side of the pond is for backup and if the network goes down in the US as it did a little while ago and Hostgator was down, you can easily change the DNS settings to point to the other server.

If there is a problem with the connection across the Atlantic linking the UK with the US then having two servers on either side with one acting as a backup leaves you with not having all your eggs in one basket so to speak.

Google search results are not the same for everybody.
For the same search term, a visitor form UK and a visitor from US with get different search results. This is because Google look at the IP of the server and the IP of the user when listing its SERP.
Maybe it is not a big concern, but if you are targeting UK visitors, having a UK IP will help to improve your ranking for people searching from UK.

One of Google's ranking factors is the speed of your site.. if you're site is aimed at UK customers and they're servers are UK based it's a big advantage.

Some of the big hosting companies now have UK based servers, you just have to ask. I've always found them a little bit more expensive than US based ones
