Hi!

I need to get my WP blog better optimized, however I'm a total newb.

I'm going to search some videos or something maybe thats related to WP for Dummies, haha - but if anyone knew of any they could share with me, I'd be happy to give out some 'thanks'

Have a good one,

Bre

I would start by downloading a few free plugins.

    All in One SEO
    All in One Webmasters
    Google XML Sitemaps

This will take care of your meta tags for the site, and will also allow you to add SEO to each individual post and page. The Webmasters plugin will allow you to manage your Google, Yahoo, and Bing accounts in one place.

Also I would recommend Google XML Sitemaps to automatically generate a sitemap. Then use All in One Webmasters to submit that sitemap. This should be a good start!

Besides what reynold is sharing, you can
#1) remember to change your permalinks
#2) add in facebook like or sharecount
    #3) add tweetmeme
    #4) Remember your google analytics
#5) add in optin somewhere visible in your site

Great recommendation on the permalinks. I have found the most success changing the permalinks to "custom" --> "/%category%/%postname%".

I also left out earlier to add some kind of social networking submission plugin so viewers can bookmark your posts and pages.

      Like this you mean...

      /%category%/%postname%/

Make sure these " / " are in place properly or you can mess up the link structure.

I got "Wordpress for Dummies" by Lisa Sabin-Wilson and it's pretty good. There's a LOT of information in there and I think it's s good reference to have nearby.

A side question: You guys all recommend having ONLY ONE category for your posts? Is that right?

@gixxer No, put your content into cats related to your post/article/video what ever you have.

    @Stuart
Really? once I forgot to have one of those dashes and my permalink structure went wack, it was a dash in between like /%tags%%cats%/%post%/. The end one must not be a necessity.

    Hi Brekat23, other than Ed Dale's 30dc I also recommend Steven's supersimpleblogging.com.
I'm not really fond of 30dc's Wordpress Direct (very high monthly fees for beginner). You can check out Steven's ssb. Both are free btw so you are free to choose
