Need Help Finding A Niche To Build List In :)

Hi,

I finally understand how important building a list is. A ton of my blogger accounts got deleted and my income is now cut in half ( well, im trying to fix it because a lot of views came from the ezinearticles.)

Anyways, im ready to sit down and focus now on one solid niche to build a list in. I mean if I just write say 5 articles per day and submit them to ezinearticles, goarticles and some pdf distrubution sites I should have a steady list being built in no time.

Here's the problem though:

I don't want to work in any health niches! So what am I left with here? I tried gardening a while back but im not sure it's so hot right now since the winter will be approaching soon enough.

I looked at the green niches like solar energy and all of that and it seems pretty solid with a lot of products. Im thinking about this niche, just wondering if anyone has any experience in niches outside of health issues that are good for building list in. Thanks and im ready to work!!

    Corey,

    Quit thinking short term.

Instead of starting at the squeeze page and working up,
start at a high ticket item and work down.

In other words, start with the end in mind. Yes, it's an
excellent idea to build a list of subscribers. But you must
also look at the potential in the market to build a list of
customers who will be willing to spend on a range of
    products.

Generally niches that lend themselves to building a list are niches where the end result that the prospect is looking for requires a process, as opposed to a one time transaction.

      - Personal Development/Self-Improvement/Success

      - Business/Financial advice (This could inlcude anything from business opportunities to marketing tips for entrepreneurs to sales tips to investing advice)

      - Dating/Relationships (You could also expand this to include social relationships in general, such as how to make friends, how to be popular, etc.)

      - Education, such as learning a musical instrument.

Those are just a few off the top of my head.

Cory, i'm reposting this because I think it's incredibly good advice and advice I've only recent really "got" myself even though I've read it and thought it more than once.

Thanks. But I am looking at big picture now. The green niche has quite a few high gravity products on clickbank. The only problem is that the niche seems so saturated in the search engines.

I really want to get into a fun niche though if you know what I mean. But I have heard that craft niches are not good for list so thats why im looking at the whole green niche now. I know health niches convert well and are desperate, but what about other niches like this that convert well outside of the health niche? Thanks

    Hmm....good point Hesaidblissfully

So a process and not an end result. The dating niche could be good like you say. I could start maybe a free training "newsletter" to help people get dates. Something like that would work well for a list right?

It could, however as someone mentioned above, "dating" is such a broad topic and there are already such established entities that it would be hard to compete as an unknown, unless you joint ventured with a big name or you had significant media exposure.

A better way to approach that niche if you were interested in it might be to target sub-niches, like (keep in mind I'm just rattling off ideas here, I don't know if these would actually be profitable):

      - Online dating: Even this is still a very broad topic, so maybe something like "How to use popular social networking sites to get dates". Or "Online dating tips for shy people".

      - Dating tips for college students.

      - Dating tips for older men who want to date younger women.

      - Dating tips for older women who want to date younger men.

      - Dating tips for people who've recently been divorced.

      - Dating tips for single parents.

      - Relationship tips for people in long distance relationsips.

      - Dating tips for women who want to marry wealthy men.

      - Dating tips for people who want to date people of other races/from other cultures.

      - Dating tips for people over 50.

      - Dating tips for women who want to date women.

And so on...I think for the most part, dating is dating: You meet someone, you like them, they like you and it's all good. But in some of the situations above, there are specific nuances where people might feel like a product made "just for them" is superior to a generic dating product.

Again, I just rattled these off, but whichever niche you choose you can start with something broad and then break it down into specific categories and then research the market to measure demand and see if it's profitable. I also like the idea of using Amazon to find bestsellers and other hot topics. I think someone on the forum once suggested Ehow for the same purpose in regard to "How To" information products.

Thanks a lot Gabriel!! I know if nothing else this is a good method for locating micro niches So basically I could build a list on raising chickens based off that research. But it seems like a short term niche because one the chickens are raised then what?

I guess then I start offering products on how to take care of a chicken? But that doesn't seem right because most likely these people are raising chickens to sale them for profit or to eat them.

But thats not my niche anyways, I won't give tips on how to kill the little chickens, lol. So basically even some of the smaller niches are good for building a list in?

Thanks. But are small niches good for building list? I want to start with the end in mind. So I need to find the product first right? Or better yet I need to find say 3-5 products that I plan to promote my list and also set up a sales funnel right?

I just get so confused with list building sometimes. I can never determine a good niche to build a list in. Its 2 pm here and I have not eaten anything yet (starting to feel sick.) Im going to get some food and buy some coffee so I can get to work when I get back. If anyone has any more advice please feel free to post.

Im more ready than ever to build a list and start working hard now Thanks

thanks guys. Well im back from lunch haha! Thats what not having a car in LA gives you Those are some good points about the sub niches. Im guessing I should target some sub niches. It's just confusing feeling like you could be wasting your time building a list in a bad niche.
