Anyone selling heavy items(80lbs+) online successfuly?

Anyone out there successfully selling heavy items as an affiliate?

I'm trying to start a site based around a certain topic, but the only problem is the items are in the 80-150 lbs range so I'm wondering if the added shipping weight is enough to keep people from buying it online. The only products I have promoted before have been under 40 lbs so I have no idea about this...

    Just my opinion, but I would be more inclined to order something larger like that online than go to a shop and have to figure out some way to get it home.

    You'll find that even if people prefer to buy stuff like that from shops they will still go online first to do some research and compare prices. If you can hit them at that stage and offer a deal too good to refuse, I can't see why it wouldn't work out for you.

    The NordicTrack people seem to do okay and I'd guess that just about everything they sell is heavier than what you have in mind.

      I would say it depends on what it is. Does the shipping cost end up making it cost a whole lot more than buying it locally, or is the shipping cost a significant percentage of the actual product cost?

      Let's say you're selling something heavy that costs $50 and the shipping is $40. I think I'd buy locally, if it's something that would be available locally. I could get two locally for barely more than buying online from you. To save that $40, I'd figure out a way to get it home myself.

      On the other hand, if it's something that's $800 and the shipping is $40, that's worth it to have it delivered straight to my door.

    It's all based on the selling price point; You're going to have a hard time selling 100 pounds of kitty litter and making it cost-effective.

    With $1,000+ items like HDTV's etc, the high shipping costs are offset (or mostly offset) by the sales tax savings for most people. If they're buying a $1,500 HDTV locally they're usually paying $120 (or whatever) in sales tax, so online if shipping costs about the same but there's no sales tax and the selling price is more competitive to begin with, you've got an edge.

    Can't say I have Dan, but I will say I have paid $100 for shipping in the past
    on top end electrical's and accepted it.

    Probably depends on what the item is as to whether people will stump up.

    Take a look on Ebay Dan, see if folks are paying the shipping, Amazon too.
