Do You Follow Other People's Progress?

I'm starting this thread for a number of reasons. I'm interested to see what you guys think about a semi-recent trend going on in the "amateur" internet marketing world (meaning, not gurus).

Do you follow any "progress journals" or things like that where people detail the success or lackthereof that they're having with various internet marketing ventures or methods? Why or why not? Are they inspiring? Depressing? a waste of your time?

And because it's relevant to me personally, I have a second question. What must somebody do to keep your attention in such a journal/public progress thread? Show results? Give full case studies of products? Be funny? Be brief? Be thorough and detailed?

I'm sure most of you don't know me yet, and I do a video journal on YouTube mostly focused around trying out different products and showing you how much I made and how long it took me. So I wanted to hear from the internet marketing masses, is this trend going to last, and how do you think it will develop?

Thanks for taking the time to answer and share your opinion. If you actually keep one of these journal things, why not post it here so we can all check it out?

Hope this counts, but, I've been following Pat Flynn's progress for quite a few months now....It's all laid out there for the world to see...I love the transparency...

My Income Reports | The Smart Passive Income Blog

Most of all....I LOVE the challenge....I'm a bit shy of his earnings, but I'm determined to surpass him.... (it's a little personal goal of mine...lol)

In all seriousness though, he's been a GREAT mentor to myself, and others....

Thanks for letting me know about Pats site.

It is refreshing to see somebody actually working hard and being transparent about his earnings.

It is an inspiring blog and he has gained a new fan.

      Thanks again

It is important that you follow what is around you.

It's very easy to get lost in ones small world and think they are doing very well only to find out everyone else in their niche is doing extremly well taking advantage of new trends and technology.

Also of importance is to know where others are failing so that you can avoid the pitfalls.

To me this is prime and one of the reasons I joined WF.

I am not sure this quite relates as much, but I do follow a lot of IM's, not on a searching for knowledge sense but just to keep informed of their progress. Its interesting to see the stages people go through online and how people progess.

I always find myself checking back through emails to look at how I've opened 30 + from IM 'X' but none from IM 'Y'. Learning about what draws me to certain people online. At the end of the day IM is a people based business, how you market yourself, your ideas and knowledge.

I do find it motivating to see people I've been on their lists for 3-4 years and seeing how they have improved in copywriting, the markets they have moved in and out of. Would definitely keep up to date with someone's progress if I found it interesting enough. I think a dairy style book would be a really interesting read. For me personally, I am not saying from any other but my perspective, I would want to read something that showed true honesty. Reveal the days you spend tearing your hair out behind the screen or working for 18 + hours solid or the days where you have no motivation and struggle, combined with the times of success and those moments, like when you check your clickbank and see your first ever sale.

So much IM is copywriting and selling, you lose the person behind the keys.

I follow people who are successful, there are many internet marketers on which I keep a close watch to see how they launch and market their new products. I am also doing the same.

I used to read Lost Ball in High Weeds. Loved that blog. Haven't read it in quite awhile, but I imagine it is still as good as it was. Very transparent writing.

I don't pay attention to people who are shouting for others to watch them - but I do keep an eye on fellow warriors and I've seen many warriors come here as complete newbies and end up being called gurus by new members.

I follow other people in my niches... but none of the I.M. crowd, really.

Only a few who are doing some really innovative stuff that I can take with me into other niches...
