Articles on Site Question

Hello everyone,

I am new to affiliate and online marketing but love the information here...it is outstanding!

A little while back, there was a MASSIVE thread on whether or not to post an article on ones own site or Ezine first. I am not here to start that debate again as that horse was already beaten to death and I have decided that the articles should first be put on my own site based on the great input. I hope that RichJerkNet (James) among others can help as I really valued his insights.

Since that thread is closed, I was more looking for a little help/clarification. Here's the deal.

I am selling a Clickbank product (starting with one and focusing on it before moving on). I have set up a review site on the product on my wordpress blog (Hostgator hosted) which I have optimized (I think . I wrote an article (I will write a lot more) and posted it to my site. I have also setup 3 feeder sites - HubPage, Blogger.com, and Wordpress.com and posted spun versions of the same article there (using The Best Spinner- great progam BTW).

Each of these 3 feeder sites link back to my review site (money site) home page where the review with affiliate links resides and not to the original article on my site. The next thing I did was submit another spun version to Ezine (under review) and ArticleBase (approved and posted). So here are my questions (BTW- from what I read it seems that I do not need to bother spinning as long as I post to my money site first but I figure it can't hurt so long as the articles make sense):

1) What are bookmarking sites? Are Hubpages, Blogger and Wordpress examples? The thread mentioned examples of:

All News, Videos, & Images
Clipmarks - What are you finding on the web?
Home | Propeller
Faves: Sites you'll love, from people like you
Mister Wong | Social Bookmarking Tool

What really the difference between the ones above and a Hubpage or Squidoo Lens?

2) Should I have any links pointing to the 3 feeder sites? Should they link between each other or strictly to my money site?

3) When I post the article to my site first, where should I have anchor links in my article pointing to? Should they link directly to my affiliate link or to my home page with the review on it, or a combo of both?

4) Is it ok to use the same one keyword as the anchor text in the articles for each of the different sites I have set up, or should they be different? There are other keywords in the body of the text, just not anchored.

4) I tried setting up a Squidoo Lens but it won't let me post my topic (which is on health and has a lot of useful content) because it says that my lens has a topic that is banned (stupid considering it is health related but they justify based on too much spam associated with that topic). Anyway around this or is Squidoo becoming a pain and not worth the effort?

Is the order above correct? Any feedback or comments would be great.

I am so grateful in advance for any help. My apologies for the long post- I just could really use some help so I can get th hell out of my cubicle life and as far away from corporate as possible.

Thanks in advance ,

Roy

Sorry, one more question. How does ezine know that an article is original to you? Would that mean that after you post it to your site first and then to Ezine, you have to link it back directly to the article on your site? Seems silly to do that. Why would I read an article on Ezine and then want to be taken to that same article on another site? What is the value or am I missing something?

Roy... too many questions to answer at once . And it seems to me like you are complicating your life a little too much. Remember that everyone is going to have their own take on how they do things, particularly because not everyone works in the same way or uses the same exact sites.

As far as articles is concerned, yes always do post first on your site and then eza followed by other directories. Eza DOES figure out if the content is original to you based on the link in your resource box and of course, on other methods that they have to check for duplicate content. Now, I know some people have said that there is no need to spin the articles, but in my opinion, the more unique the article the better off you are at getting more of them indexed, placed in SERPS and ranked. As long as they ALL link back to your original you should be fine. Remember that with Google the content that gets published and crawled first is the one that gets indexed, any duplicate content after that will get filtered out. So, aim for uniqueness as much as possible. Try different strategies for pinging, submitting and bookmarking and stick to whichever one works best for you. After all, NOT everyone benefits in the same exact way from different methods.

Hi.. I do agree with contentarticlewriter. His ideas are perfect and I do the same strategy when it comes to article writing.
All of us have unique techniques and you can try everything if you want then choose the best techniques that can work well with your site/blog.

    1. You don't really have to bother with spinning articles but it all really depends on the goals of your articles. If you are looking for backlinks then it doesn't matter. However if you are looking to rank with your articles, I suggest you to change it up a little bit because google doesn't like to return the same content multiple times on the same page for its searchers.

There is no duplicate content penalty only a "google favored searcher experience issue".

If it is a tough and competitive keyword you are trying to rank for, you are going to need unique content to rank all of your properties on the first page.

If it is a rare keyword with no commercial content whatsoever then you might be able to rank 2 properties that have the same content. Its rare, but it happens. Google isn't perfect.

    2. Bookmarking sites are sites such as delicious, digg, propeller etc. Its basically a web directory where you can save content. These have been abused and spammed to death for quite some time now. They still can be tapped into depending on your goals with your affiliate marketing campaign.

Sites like squidoo and hubpages are content directories where you can place content on so that you can be ranking in google. They do not index as well as they used to but if you know how to contribute and socialize within their community, there are great rewards to be add.

    3. As far as linking within the properties you are better off with one way links. Some people say that linkwheels are still effective but I steer clear away from them because you never know when google is going to penalize link wheels on the mass scale.

Things change with google all the time, you can either profit quickly now and risk long-term income or you can play by the rules and know that your income is safe years from now.

With linking you should keep it random and at least have your affiliate link or main blog in each page your planning on promoting. Some web 2.0 properties like wordpress.com will delete your blog if they catch whiff of promotional links.

So browse through the web 2.0 sites and see what type of content people are getting away with before you place yours on there.

    4. As far as anchor text goes you should randomize it. Lets say "travel to miami" is your keyword. You can mix in "travel to miami", "travel to miami today", "travel to miami for cheap" and just rotate those anchor texts.

This will look more natural in googles eyes.

    5. As far as squidoo goes about banning your niche, you should just place your content elsewhere. Don't bother with risking having all your hard work removed.

Ezine can find out if its your original content by the domain in your affiliate link and also your profile. In your ezine profile you can list your websites etc.

You know I'm sorry, but posting the same article that is on your site on Ezinearticles just sounds like a bad idea to me. Google has to pick one of those sites to consider the authority and the true owner of that content, who do you think they will pick a giant high trust site like Ezinearticles or your new 1 page sales letter.

Just write a new article for the article sites/blogs it will work out much better in the long run.

It will have already "picked" the one where it originally indexed the article, of course: that's the whole point of publishing it yourself first.

(By the way, we're not talking about a one-page sales letter, here: that type of content wouldn't usually be accepted by EZA anyway - we're talking about "articles").

And it's also closely related to the point of sending the traffic generated by your SEO to your site rather than to EZA's, so that it's your site that gets built up rather than EZA's. Otherwise you won't ever be able to develop an authority site without EZA outranking you for your own keywords!
IDK, Google visits EZA every 5 seconds, they visit a brand new site like what once a week? It's not who has it up first, it's who Google finds first.

Plus there are other things that Google looks for to determine the "higher quality," PR, Backlinks, etc. It's not just who they find first, Matt Cutts even said they look for a variety of things.
That's why some people claim that they can get an affilate link ranked even higher then the original page, and all affiliate links are technically douplicate content and not the original.

You can if you want to, but it will be easier if your site is all original. Less work and SEO for the same results.

EZA will accept that it's original to you if the name (or pen-name) under which you submit it to EZA is the same as the one under which you originally published it on your own site/blog, or the same as the one given there as the owner of that site/blog (provided it doesn't also show up as having previously been published elsewhere under other names, of course!).

All you have to do is publish it on your own site, wait for it to be indexed there, and then submit it to EZA under the same name.

As rightly observed above, actually there's no need to spin it at all.

It does to many people, apparently, but they're mistaken: it isn't. It would help you a lot to read this fine thread, referred to above.

My articles are always indexed within 48 hours, usually much less. But anyway, there's no point in being in a rush when you're trying to take the long-term view and develop a real business in which you own the property that becomes the authority site and gets the traffic.
Apparently you missunderstood my point. EZA is an authority, put an article on a brand new site and wait 1 day, then put it on EZA and see who gets found first. Sometimes people believe just because it is on their site first they get the credit.

We agree about something, then. I offer you the observation that if you put it on your own site and don't submit it to EZA until its been indexed there, Google WILL find "your copy" first, because it's the only one out there to be found. Simple.
I guess, but like I said before it is not just about who is found first. It is also about authority, PR, etc. You could take an article already on EZA, put it on your site, do a bunch of SEO on it and rank in the SE, even though you stold it, simply because it is considered an authority.

Honestly you could submit the same article to EZA and your site and still rank well. Anything can be done. Heck you could take fort Knocks with enough men and fire power, but why not make it easy on yourself?

Plus there is the added benefit of that content being on your site. If it is really good and people like to read it they have to come to your site to do it.
