Anyone know of a support email address for cli.gs the url shortening/re-direct service. It's been down all day, not sure for how long?

Any alternatives to cligs that you would recommend?

  • pps -- just type in "short URLs" in google and you'll get a nice big list. I just did and theser are some of the links:

    www.shorturl.com
    bit.ly
    tiny.cc

    etc, etc.

      • Good point Alexa.

I suppose you could always make your own URL redirection service. Would be relatively trivial to do with a little bit of php.

Warriors using tinyurl had a grave shock to the system, last year, when it looked as if that service went under (fortunately it was rescued and their links all saved - that time!).

Imagine how inconvenient it would be to your business if your forwarding service disappeared into the night. Would you even still have access to all your links, to change them? (I wouldn't).

No disrespect to anyone - I'm "just saying"; this can be a really short-sighted idea.

Hi Alexa, and the alternative is?

I use cligs to shorten extremely long affiliate url's for a site where hosting is captive (I know) bit.ly looks to be a good option in these circumstances as it's the default Twitter url shortner and I can't see that being downgraded anytime soon.

Well I know how much domain names cost - I have 120 of them. Not sure how buying one gets me a url redirection/shortening service?

I'm aware of that Alexa, trouble is I need to forward about 400 links so buying a domain name for each is a little problematical. I have a number of scripts that allow me to do the /recommends thing but they were less than reliable last time I ran them.

I appreciate your input. Was really looking for a recommendation to a service being successfully used by other Warriors.

Still looking for support info for cligs. Have visited their Twitter feed but it hasn't been updated since March - time to move on.

The owner was going to shut it down in October of last year but I guess he sold it?

So not sure whats going on here but I don't think I'd keep using it after I knew it could disappear at anytime.

Cligs was bought/taken over by the bookmarking service Mr Wong in December last year. Maybe they've given up on it.
