Amazon Affiliates In India-How Do You Get Your Payments

by Lian

Okay. I received my check from Amazon a few days ago. The check was issue in USD, from the WellsFargo Bank.

Two days ago the check was returned to me with a letter from my bank (ICICI) stating that they could not process the check as they were unable to locate the exact payee details.

Is amazon not a good IM option for people in India?

Does anyone have similar experience? If so what did you do to solve the issue?

What is the best option for me so I don't have lose this commission I've earned after working so hard marketing amazon products?

Thanks in advance for your inputs.

Lian

    Hi
I am not that lucky to get check from Amazon but I receive check from Survey site as well as from one PTC site ( all in $$). I deposited it to my HDFC Bank ( only I had to give a declaration that how I have earned it ). HDFC Bank send the check to their branch in New York and gets the amount cleared. The whole process takes about 15 to 20 days. Pl talk with your bank if they have any overseas branch.
Hope I could through some light. Best of luck.

Thank you for the info. I decided to post here before calling my bank as I assumed other warriors who might have had similar issue would be able to answer better. I wasn't aware I had to write a declaration to cash USD checks.

I'll talk to my bank tomorrow and will get back here with their response, in case there are other people facing or will face similar problem en-cashing their USD checks in India.

      Cheers

    Hi Lian

At the time of depositing my check my bank personal told me to do so. It is just a simple application in a plain paper indicating for what service you have received the check ( like Aff marketing, consulting, etc.). I am bit surprised that bank like ICICI should have guided you. Additionally amazon has a method of sending money if you send them the Bank Routing Number and Account Number
    Best of luck

Very good information here thanks. Although I live in Germany, not India, this is useful for me. Specially the part about the routing number. I only get paid in gift certificates but I hope one day to earn enough to warrant a transfer or cheque from Amazon

    Hi Lian,

From last 2.5 years I am regularly depositing amazon checks in ICICI bank with no problems at all. They do take 20 odd working days to clear the check though. Everytime I submit the check I also submit an "indemnity bond" (signed by you) along with the pay-in-slip. Ask you bank manager for the indemnity bond format, they have a readymade printed form in every branch.

Checks/Cheques can be processed in India for almost any international currency,
so that rarely is an issue. Costs can vary, and do, between banks - as does the
time delay in receiving cash to your account. You have an option of having your
bank 'purchase' the cheque (at a discount, usually sizable) and credit your account
    sooner, if there's a rush.

In your case, it looks like the problem is with the "payee details". At least in the
beginning, the payee on your US dollar check must be an EXACT MATCH with
your bank account name - or else the bank may return it. After many years, I
do get away with some minor formatting disparities, but you cannot (for instance)
cash a USD check made out in your business' name, by depositing it in a personal
bank account, or an account in any other name.

If so, you have to write to Amazon.com and explain the situation, asking if they
will cancel this check and re-issue another one in the correct/changed name.
It will take a longer time, though.

Try asking your local branch manager if they can suggest any other workaround
(such as providing identity proof to allow them to process the check, if there is
only a minor error like breaking up the name on the check e.g. Siva Subramanian
    instead of Sivasubramanian)

    Hope this helps.

    All success
    Dr.Mani

P.S. - I've processed literally hundreds of checks, and never had to furnish an
indemnity bond, or sign any other documents, for that purpose. Not in 1996,
    not in 2010.

      Dr Mani,

I am thinking of doing affiliate marketing of Clickbank and Amazon products. Can I get the commission payments into my Paypal account or how do they make the payment.

Request your guidance in this regard please.

      Thanks

      Hi,

I have an online store since an year which is doing good.
Recently, i wanted to test out on Amazon if it works.

The good news is that IT HAS. I have made my first sale on Amazon.
However, there is a bad news. I am a seller from India.

How do i receive payments from them?
They require a USA Bank account number which i do not have.

You people discussed about getting cheques from Amazon. I couldnt locate any such option in my account.

Please throw light on this and guide me as to what is to be done or i will need to refund the first amazon order. And that would be so sad as you all know.

      Please help.

      Thanks,
      Jyoti

I get cheques from Amazon. They come in USD and since they come in the name of my partner Sudeshna she has to write an application to the bank every time she receives a USD cheque. The banks have always honored so far. This applies to Wells Fargo cheques from Amazon and Clickbank. The name must EXACTLY match, letter by letter, since the clearance is done at the NEFT level and is beyond the scope of the bank in a sense.

Having said that, we have been using IDBI as our bank so far. But this time, we have a new ICICI bank account. Paypal money gets smoothly transferred there. For Clickbank, this is the first time we shall receive there (coming saturday), hoping it goes well. And also, we still receive the Amazon chqeus in the name used in our IDBI bank account (Sudeshna's surname has clightly changed in the legal sense in the meanwhile and the new ICICI account has this new surname while the IDBI does not). Need to change the surname in Amazon and try to get it in ICICI.

But yes, in general, if the name matches, I have never had a single dot of trouble ever in IDBI bank in our New Delhi <some location> branch to clear USD cheques from Wells Fargo bank.

    Hi Fred Jones,

Thanks a lot for your reply and the information.

Actually, if you could guide me a to how do i request a cheque from Amazon?
Is there any process on how to get the Cheque from Amazon ?

And the cheque comes under which name? Where do i need to maintain the name in Amazon settings which will be there on the cheque?

I have had no hassles at all with PayPal. It transfers within 3-4 days in my bank account.

    Please guide me.

    Thanks

Trash your bank and get a real bank. A nationalised bank where people knows the banking procedures. Yes they may not have a air conditioner or air-hostess like staff to greet you, but when it comes to real banking, they know their stuff.

As the old proverb says, all that glitters is not gold.

The first thing, get a trade license in your name (if you are using your own name as "Doing Business As")

Secondly, if you are receiving foreign currency as a payment for professional services rendered you are an Service Exporter. Period. The most basic document that you require is an import export code issued by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT). You need to furnish this to your bank. (I hope you do have it).

The next thing is letting the bank know the reason for the funds. You can create an invoice in the name of Amazon and furnish it to your bank beforehand. Before the cheque arrives.

After following the above procedure, if your bank still asks you to sign an indemnity bond, talk to a better bank (as I mentioned above) where knowledgeable veterans work on the desk.

My feeling is that is unavoidable - since affiliates have yet to build trust with indian clients. To overcome this, I would suggest partnering up with trustworthy Europeans or Americans, with established affiliate accounts and who are prepared to split the proceeds 50/50. That way you can get paid in a stronger currency, and become a rich man in India!

Hey guys great questions and answers. I still had one more question though if yaw'll dont mind. Do you need to supply tax information to amazon if you are from india? Or would you just pay taxes in India itself? Any ideas or solutions would be appreciated.

      thanks

      Hi Guys,
Does anyone know how much does wells fargo bank charge to process the cheque ?

Its been a month since I put my cheque and citibank india just told me that wells fargo bank charges are more than the cheque amount so the cheque was not honoured.

The cheque amount was more than usd 150 so I am confused

      Cheers,
