This is a pretty broad question to ask. Need more information in terms of your budget, what you are looking for, what you need to do etc..

I personally usually stick to the big 3: Dell, HP, Lenovo if this is for your business.. good warranty, good services etc.

I personally also use Lenovo more than the others - these laptops are robust, have good features & are reasonably priced.. but once again, depends on many factors..

      How about a MacBookPro?

Many of my marketing pals switched to a Mac.

The best upgrade you can get for a PC...

I would highly second this. Since I switched on Mac, it's more convenient and productive for me and my business since it's all-in-one!

  • Really depends on what you want it for, but some general advice would be to buy the most expensive one you can afford, although that might not even be necessary. I like macs and you can run windows on those nowdays, but a mac is going to cost you more than a pc. compaq is a good value. So is dell.

I have used Dell, HP, Compaq, and Sony. The only ones that actually moved fast were my Sonys. The others broke down, or had some sort of a problem. I found HP was second best.

I would say, I'll buy Lenovo or Dell. But no to HP. I have always been experiencing problem with their laptops as well their printers. Macbook is a good choice as well.

I have a total of 8 laptops in my home office (I'm in the software biz as well as IM). I have Dell, HP & Lenovo's.

I always have issues with the Dell & HP in terms of robustness.. IMHO they are "plasticcy" & made with less quality than the Lenovo's. This is why they are cheaper. The service from both Dell & HP is good but I'd rather not have to interact with service - I'd rather just have the laptops work as they are intended.

So far, I've never run into any hardware issues with any of the Lenovo's. They are built to last & have special features like waterproof keyboards, special "roll cages" in the chassis so you don't flex the motherboard when you pick it up etc.

My vote is Lenovo .. duh!

I love my Macbook Pro. Most IM software is only compatible on Windows, but I don't use much so it's not an issue for me.

Navigation on a Mac is wonderful. My recommendation is get a Mac, and also get Windows to install on a partitioned hard drive so you can run Apple and Windows software.

I'd suggest a PC, becasue some of the software can only be installed under a PC, altough you could still have ways to install on a Mac, it'd take some of your time. And I guess it's cheaper for a PC. You could save this money to do some invest for your future IM business. I personally use Acer laptop for two years, and it's still running okay.

We have 4 laptops in the house, 3 windows based and a Mac Book Pro. The Mac gets used about 99% of the time!

Don't listen too much to the fanboys in here, lol! A computer is a very personal thing, and the most important advice you could ever follow is to actually spend some time using and interacting with the laptops that you're interested in, and ask as many questions as you can of the salesmen and the people who own these machines (even to the point of being a pest)....only then do you make your own informed decision on which laptop to get, never rely blindly on advice from (usually biased) parties which might make you regret your decision later on down the road when it is too late!
