Inquiring minds need to know ...

Here's one to really get everyones mind to the wheel ... I've got a nephew, 18yrs, who I want to introduce to internet marketing. We've talked it over, and he's interested. He's on a 3 week hiatus from his schooling, so I have a 3 week window to get him started on something and to earn enough to lock in his interest. Payout can come later, but sales must happen fast.
Here's the challenge; Amazon is easy enough (thanks to Dan Brock) but my first sale took 3 months after posting articles and the check has not arrived after 6 months. Clickbank looks to have similar payout problems, with that 5 credit cards qualifying issue, but I'm open to ideas.

I need something that is not over complicated, that will make some money decisively and within 3 weeks from starting.
It has to earn I'd say, $200 plus or it will just look like another job to him.
It can't be working on the internet, ie writing articles, that is just another job, not a ticket to real freedom.
I'm open to PPC etc but it must work, if I rip up a pile of cash and create none his interest is over.

I have a ton of near useless experience with IM. I've been at it for years with only recent, modest success. I can work almost any IM method we commonly discuss, but I've got no real experience at seeing real cash flow.

(My one decisive experience is discovering a hot item on Amazon, one single article published created dozens of sales. The trouble is that the $2 commission per item is a sick joke if I want to see $100 a day, who can sell 50 toasters day in and day out, anyone here?.)

Over to you, my razor sharp friends, I know there's an answer to this ... thank you.

I'm not trying to be rude so if it comes off that way then I apologize in advance.

Internet marketing is a business and has to be treated like one in order to succeed. It sounds like your nephew wants money but doesn't really want to work for it. This is the reason that so many of the 'get rich quick' products sell so well and why so many people end up not making money online.

The bottom line is that the only secret to making money online IS work (i.e. a job). If he can't see that, then there is no hope of making any cash online.

I totally agree with Gary. It sounds to me like you are trying to teach him the WRONG lesson, and at such a young age. If you give an 18 year old the wrong idea that the Internet is just a license to print money without putting in much effort at all, do you think he is ever going to want to get a real job.

And let's face it. Yes, there is good money to be made on the Internet but not without putting your fair share of work in.

I got my start when I was 18 as well. It took many months of learning on my own before I made my first dollar (profit, that is).

I'm not saying that he needs to struggle alone, but what I am saying is that if you try too hard to teach him IM, he'll just get confused and frustrated. I would suggest that at first, you should simply give him advice as to what NOT to do and let him find his own way before you start actively suggesting things for him to do.

It's easier to make money with something if you like doing it. It's tougher if you have that business model forced on you because you may not necessarily like it.

I agree. Why not get him set up with his own blog about a subject he is interested in. Teach him how to add content to the blog every so often and then incorporate affiliate products, adsense, etc into the site.

It's so much easier when it's something you enjoy - it won't feel like 'work'.

My advice would be to point him in the direction of a good mentor. He does not really have to see results himself in order to believe that internet marketing is a ticket to financial success.

I think that your nephew also needs to understand that anything worth having takes work! "The only time success comes before work is in the dictionary."

I know that sounds cheesy, but it is true. Also, as a previous poster stated, find a niche that interests him and show him the process of internet marketing. He can start building a list of subscribers within that niche market, and then market to them via an autoresponder.

I would focus on teaching him the principles, and while you can show him the results that are possible, he does not necessarily have to experience them for himself immediately.
