Any way to work out what people are searching for to reach someone elses site?

Obviously analytics will tell you what people are searching for when they hit your own site, but is there anyway at all to do this for another site?

An example would be a page on Amazon. There are some obscure items on there, and even putting the page into google adwords keyword tool doesn't seem to throw up any likely candidates.

Is there a method or tool that can do this?

Hope that makes sense!

Hmm, I don't think so but I could be wrong.

The best you could probably do is to search (using Google) what pages are linking to that page on Amazon and that might give you a better idea of the sorts of things people are searching before they arrive at that page.

I believe that Alexa.com and Wholinkstome.com will give your links and keywords for any site.

  • Maybe these websites are sandboxed and there are no way of tracking their links.

I recommend SEMRush.com. Basically, you can use their tool to query a site to - among other things - see what keywords they're ranking for organically and their approximate placement, what keywords they run PPC campaigns for, etc.

The free version gives you a teaser of the data; if you want to complete info you have to buy a membership, which I think is like $20/month or $200 a year or something like that (I don't remember what I paid for it).

Anyhow, I am an affiliate for SEMRush... so if you end up buying a membership it'd be really cool if you'd PM me and I'll send you an affiliate link.

    Hope that helps.
