How Do I Promote a New Blog? (Newbie to Blogging)

Hi Everybody,

I have a wordpress blog setup ready to go with some content. But the main question arises is how to promote it.

I was reading some other threads about social bookmarking posts, but is there anything else that I can do? Are there are any plugins that can automate pinging? Are there any other plugins that help in promotion? Are there any directories to submit my blog to?

What do you fellow warriors do to get a blog up and running?

Thanks a bunch!

Hi social bookmarking is good, try submiting to blog directories, also comment on other blogs, there a few widgets that will link with your facebook account and twitter account so everytime you post it automaticly posts a snippet on them to. ping fm, pingomatic, ping oat

I've just written a post called The BIG Collection of Blog Promotion Plugins for Wordpress that can help. While you don't (and shouldn't) have to download all of them, they definitely can give you a good start on your blog's launch:

        Hi,

I highly recommend writing keyword-based articles, submitting them to article directories and using the resource boxes to link to your blog. This is one of the best ways to drive traffic.

You can also write keyword-rich articles with the keyword phrase in the title and post them to your blog - you'll get better Google juice this way than with posts that aren't SEO-friendly.

And yes, social networking and bookmarking is good, too. I recommend using the free version of Onlywire for bookmarking to sites like Facebook, Twitter, Digg, Stumbleupon, Reddit and many more.

        Hope that helps!

If your blog has good content that is already written, then with just use that information as a starting point and...

          - spin the posts and create articles to submit into directories which link back to your blog
          - like mentioned above you can use social bookmarking for your individual posts or your spun articles as well
          - use Twitter and Facebook to link back to your blog as well
          - be active in forums in your niche and put a link to your blog in your signature

          Hope that helps,

Here is hands-down the easiest, fastest, and BEST way to grow your blog's traffic, rankings, and income:

    - Find relevant blogs and submit guest posts
    - Find relevant blogs and post comments
    - Keep posting high quality content to YOUR blog

Do both of those extensively (find a way to work them into your routine) and you'll build an awesome community, lots of commenters, and grow your traffic by leaps and bounds in a relatively short period of time. But consistency is key... Don't give up when things get boring or repetitive, just keep at it.

Also, don't forget to retain your blog visitors by offering an incentive to get them on your list! Building your list is essentially "insurance" for your online business, and will allow you to compound on your efforts today and use them tomorrow (the future).

    Hope that helps!

With the new blog you've got, hopefully you've chosen a .com or .org so that you will rank easier in google. Don't get me wrong, .info domains can rank as well but you will find an easier time with .com or .org.

Next thing you should do with your blog is to set-up the pinging sites so that you will be able to notify as many places as possible when you create a post/page. Add as many pinging sites as possible so that the bots will have an easier time updating your site's cache in the future.

Make sure you have at least google xml and analytics. It is important to track your progress with analytics if you are doing this for the long term.

You can go ahead and submit to blogcatalog.com if you wish but it is not necessary.

Now go ahead and get yet another related post plug in installed to help you with some internal linking within your blog. This has helped me get some descent rankings in the past.

Make sure you post content on your blog regularly and bookmark and promote it as much as possible. Don't go over board with spam links though. If you want some nice traffic try contributing and participating in social bookmarking sites.

Eventually you will reach some luck in there is one or more of your bookmarks will go viral and hopefully end up on a high traffic webmasters blog.

You can promote your blog using

    1. article directories
    2. web 2.0 sites
    3. social bookmarking
    4. rss feeds
    5. pad links
    6. pdf sites
    7. podcasting
    8. video marketing
    9. press releases
    10. blog commenting
    11. forum posting

The key is to utilize as many as possible so that it looks natural in googles eyes. Google doesn't want to see 1,000 backlinks from just article directories.

And when posting backlinks you will achieve more stable results by rotating your anchor text.

Everything mentioned above + in a little while, once you have a bunch of great articles on your blog, make a pdf out of them and post your pdf on free pdf websites. Make sure to insert your blog link at the end or throughout the pdf. You'll get traffic that way!
