Multiple Gmail Accounts?

I opened another gmail account today, but I want to know something. Can you not create multiple accounts with gmail? Why do I ask? I saw on the site "New to Gmail? It's free and easy" "Create an account". Does this imply that I cannot open multiple gmail accounts for different purposes?

Thanks. But, does the statement about being new to gmail not imply that you have to be new to gmail before creating an account?

    Hi
No, I would ignore the statement and just do what you need to do, if I remember correctly when I opened my first gmail account a couple of years ago, I had to give an alternate email address, so that they could contact me incase something when wrong with the gmail account - but that may have changed.
    So, just go for it.

    Hope this helps

It's OK to open as many as you want.

      I have 4 so far. :-)

Thanks all. I looked at some other free email services, but gmail seems to tower over most if not all of them.

    Directly from their policies:

In addition to (and/or as some examples of) the violations described in the terms of service, users may not:

Create multiple user accounts in connection with any violation of the Agreement or create user accounts by automated means or under false or fraudulent pretenses
So you may get multiple accounts, as long as you don't break any other rule.

More information at Gmail: Program policies

I have about 5 or 6 gmail accounts. Gmail takes your phone number to send you a confirmation code via text msg. When I tried to open another gmail account with them using the same cell phone number they told I've reached the limit and cannot open another one.

The only way around this is to use a different phone number.

How are so many spammers signing up for hundreds of them, then?

I deal with them all the time on my forum. Gmail's one of the worst abused free emails.

Why would you need more then 1 or 2 accounts?

    1 - for business
    1 - for personal use

Sure, you might be able to create more then one account, but why?

Many marketers use different identities for a variety reasons. For example, many have different identities relating to different niches they market in. They might use different pen names at Ezine articles which means they can be recognised as an "Expert" in different fields rather than looking like a Jack of all trades...

If I'm setting up a different identity, I just send myself an invite to another domain-email of mine.

Bill Gates markets/sells operating systems, web servers, office products, Xbox, database servers,,,,,.

And I bet he uses the same email address at microsoft for all of them.

These products are not as disparate as say baby care, golf, hunting, embroidery etc. Anyone writing on totally unrelated subjects has more credibility if they use a pen name and email address to suit. A young mother seeking advice on baby care would have greater trust in someone who writes solely on that or related subjects.

That's all well and good if your business is a household name, if it's not then there is no reason to lump all your markets together if you can easily seperate em. All there is hundreds of email addresses going to microsoft about their various products for the same reason.

I have a gmail account, but I was asked to open a separate email account for a program I joined. This is why I did that.

I only have 2 gmail accounts. I have a couple of other accounts that I use on the other freebie sites as well (yahoo, etc.) - It is a good way to test email marketing on the different platforms to see if any of the emails get rejected.

For example, I have sent out emails to gmail and yahoo - the gmail got delivered, but yahoo bounced it back! I had to tweak some things before all were delivered.

(Prob. a little more info than you wanted to know, but I think it is good to know!)

      Good Luck.

some ppl say some limits will appear at a certain time, so if you`re planning on some that you MUST have, you better make them.

Many ppl have observre, however the phenomenon still seems random to me...., a need for a MOBILE PHONE number. And on that phone number google sends a verification code.

I managed to make many accounts, both for me & clients (i never trust emails based only on the hosting account, always send a duplicate to a gmail...), and i one occasion, i did had to validate the account via phone sms.

So, some pl are stating that there will be a limit imposed on a phone number. Also, Gmail does not imagine one not having a mobile phone in one of the BIG PROVIDERS. He just tells you in the help file to go get a friend`s help... kinda lame

but, these are yet just theories, but make you wonder what`s gonna be next
