Yay!! Made my 1st sale!!! But have a question...

So I'm goin' thru my email and I see an email from an e-cig comp I'm an affiliate for. It says "Notification of approved commission"!!!

That's cool!!!

But, when I go through the stats to see the customer info, it only shows me their IP address, and their name. I have a blog setup around this niche, and apparently they clicked on a text link which went to my affil page.

Question: I'd like to follow up with this customer, and perhaps get her (?) email information for future marketing. I know, I know - I shoulda had an opt-in set up. Well, I do now, but she visited the site/made the purchase before I got it set up.

Is there a way I can get this information or is too late. I've sent an email to the company already, just wondering if this has happened to anybody else, and if so, how they handled it.

I should be jumping for joy (well as much as a one-legged dude can jump) over making my 1st sale, but instead I'm worrying about future sales, her ordering supplies, etc. I'm still happy as h*ll though!!!

Thanks y'all,

Mr. G

Maybe you should read your sig.

I personally wouldn't worry about it. Just keep working on getting more sales.

I know all of you are exactly right! The problem is this sale came with such a minimal effort on my part. All I did was setup a blog, with regular, relevant content. That was a few months ago. Other than sumitting to Digg, a few blog comments, that was it...

So I don't really have the attitude like this 1st sale is the "first of many more to come" since I didn't really do anything. I hope that makes sense

As far as tracking, all I have access to is the backend for this co (Greensmoke). They use the iDevAffiliate platform. But as far as I can see I can't get anything other than a name, and IP address.

But again, I feel you all are right - just keep it movin'!

      Thanks for the positive words!

Congratulations mate... but sounds like that one got away.

I wouldn't worry about it, and focus on the rest that will flow your way.

    all the best.

Agree with the rest. You didn't have anything already set up to catch the email so no worries. I know at first you want to go after that buyer and get them on your list, but there will be plenty more the more you go.

I think we're all in agreement. The only way to capture this information would be if they went through a clickbank link. You can access all of the buyers in the reports section. I'm not sure which affiliate set up you're using but most have a similar feature.

    Hi,

Congratulations with your first commission online.

Do not worry about the email... Look this is your first sale...
you should celebrate it. Internet as proven to you that it has potential!
You have now more belief in it... so Congratulations!

You can start capturing Email in later stage..but for now focus on making sales,
when you know product is converting and bringing you good sales...only then spend
more time in that Niche..and only then add more steps in the sales system...
as in the beginning when Niche is not proven, product is not proven, and when you
are not good at email marketing, it is not good idea to add more steps in the sales
process... Let the seller sell to them... When you have made about 10+ or more sales
then you can take that Niche serious and add list setup...

      Emphasis mine...

Wow! I never looked at it like that before. Really somethin' to think about, especially as I can't afford $19/mth for Aweber!

      Thanks again man

Thanks Chris! As far as "plenty of fish" yeah, sure, but can I get them in MY net - that's the million-dollar question!

        Congrats Mr. G!!!!

1st sales are the hardest to get sometimes so kick on some bee gees and celebrate!!

Yea don't sweat the opt in man. If you haven't been doing anything with the site much you now see the potential. So focus in on driving some traffic to the site. Their are probably hundreds of thousands or millions of customers in your niche so don't worry about one gone. Just take the high from this sale, let it fuel you, and go get some more!

        Best to you bro !

I've been making commissions in that niche without trying also. Don't have a list either, but if the customer likes the product and continues to purchase and even spreads the word, you'll get more commissions. I haven't really thought of an ebook type thing or bonus in this niche that I could use to capture emails, since I provide all the details of ecigs on my site. If the company has a coupon code somewhere, perhaps you could set up a squeeze page that gives them a coupon code after signing up.

@B: Hey I appreciate it! I'm focusing on traffic now. Low funds, so I'm doin' the blog comment/forum post/social bookmark thang...hope it pays off!

@sbucciarel: Wow, you too? That's awesome! Thanks for the idea of using the coupon code - had'nt thought a that. As far as a "bonus" for them signing up, I was gonna offer them a 'Quit Smoking' ebook, figuring that a lot of people in that niche might be tryin' 2 quit anyway.

@Triwlo: Thank you. I'm sure you'll get yours soon. Like I said in the OP, I really haven't done much as far as "advertising" either; just a few comments on other people's blogs, submit to Digg, and a couple of forum posts with url in the sig. That's all I've done!

@iamJT: Thank you for the positive feedback. Yeah, I'm not gonna sweat it too much, especially after so many vets on here have advised me that it's ok.

Thanks everybody for the kind words.

        Later,

        Mr. G
