Traffic Formula?

I have heard of some different traffic formulas that are designed to give you some sort of an idea as to how many visitors you can expect if you are ranked #1, #2, or #3 on Google.

Does anyone have a time tested and proven formula that you have found to be pretty accurate? I know that every formula is going to have variances, I'm just curious...

    Any such formula will only be a guide because there is a big difference between the traffic you get for "hot" keyword(s) like "auto loans" (no 1 position) versus say bicycle repair (no 1 position).

    The popularity of the keyword(s) makes a huge difference in the traffic you get for a number 1 spot.
