Where/how do you get ideas for your niche websites?

I keep reading about the money-making opportunities with highly-targeted niche websites, but i'd just like to ask the experienced ones in this forum about how they go about finding and deciding which niche to target?

Personally, I went for a small niche that I was personally very passionate about and knowledgeable about.

I already had connections and was known in the community, plus I was aware of industry trends. I have sort of a "sense" of what's going on and what's getting popular.

I know there are ways to target a niche you don't know about and do the whole thing by the numbers, but that's not what I did.

I think the thing to do is go after what you know and already have interest in.

Others on here can tell you how to pick a niche based on numbers and keywords and traffic.

It depends on the type of niche I want to focus on.

For physical products, I look at the Amazon Bestsellers and the Movers and Shakers.

Amazon.com Bestsellers: The most popular items on Amazon.com. Updated hourly.

Amazon.com Movers & Shakers: The biggest gainers in Amazon.com sales rank over the past 24 hours.

I sometimes use Terapeak to examine eBay sales

eBay Research Tools, eBay Market Data | Terapeak

Sometimes I get ideas from Google Product Search, by refreshing and looking at the random searches that come up at the bottom.

Google Product Search (seems to be different lately with the Father's day ideas)

For digital products, I use the old stand-by of the ClickBank marketplace

Digital Products Retailer: Affiliate Program & Sell Online - ClickBank

Finally, I get ideas from my interactions with people and observing what they are desperate for, passionate about, etc.

    I hope this helps

All of the above are great ways to find niches. It's also good to pay attention to ads in magazines and on TV and see what they're selling. If they're paying the BIG advertising bucks, it's probably a good niche and can also be broken down into smaller profitable niches with a little keyword research.
