Well let's see, there's article marketing, PPC (Pay Per Click), Banner Ads, Press releases, Craigslist, Social networking, Viral marketing, Video maketing, Podcasts, Blogging. Those should get you started. Do some research and you can learn more about them. As far as putting anything on autopilot, the closest thing I can think of is article marketing. If you write good articles you can get traffic for years with just writing one article. Hope this gets you started.

We all wish we get traffic automatically cos it seems to be a lot of hard work and it takes a lot of time to drive traffic.

PPC is the only automatic way I know to drive traffic but it come with the highest cost.
It works for one of my sites. Set the advertisement once and it brings traffic and sales to me month after month, on full auto-pilot.

The second most effective traffic generator is article marketing.

I had tried participating in forums and it works too.

Video marketing bring in a lot of traffic too.

The success factor is to keep doing it consistently. It takes time and effort.

Depending on what position you are in, your traffic source could be different.

According to John Reese, there are three types of traffic:
    1) Paid
    2) Borrow
    3) Stolen

According to traffic-ology, there are three types of traffic as well:
    1) Targeted
    2) Random
    3) Passer by

The best type of traffic should be pulled in by affiliates, if you have your own products.

If there's a best way, we'd be all rich. :p

Just wanna add my 2 cents...

A lot of traffic on autopilot doesn't happen until you integrate several advertising channels into an inter-linked system.

Also, softwares are like supplements, they don't work alone. They can make things simpler, but you still need to do the fundamental works. Think of it like building muscles. You can't just take protein powders everyday without doing some weight-lift training consistently.

I'd like to tell you there's truly a best and easist way, but nothing's perfect. Without enough understanding about how marketing works, any method will not give you good result. I'd suggest spending the time and really digging in to learn marketing...

^ All of the above answers ... you cannot just run a piece of software and get tons of traffic no matter what the sales pages say. It's takes work and a combination of things that have already been mentioned.

The only autopilot traffic that I think you can get is from being in the top 5 rankings on Google which can take a lot of time.

You can use video marketing, ppc, ppv, banner ads, press releases, classified sites, social networking sites, start a blog, do article marketing, etc. Not too sure about the auto pilot thing...you will constantly have to tweak and try to optimize your campaigns but you can get long term traffic from article marketing. Just start out and focus on 1 or 2 methods, master them and move on to another. Good luck

I am not sure if there is a "best" method to get traffic. I have been using forum marketing and articles as how to do it. The traffic is low, but its there. You really want to try and drive targeted traffic to your blog/product. Here is my example.

      1000 (un-targeted traffic) - 25% actually are interested

      100 (targeted traffic) - 75% are interested

So, lets say you want quality traffic instead of lots of traffic. This is unless your using Adsense as your main means for revenue. Then its a whole different story.

Like it was mentioned earlier, study and learn marketing that is what I am doing as we speak. As I am not an expert in this. But, I am a student

Of course there are no definite method of getting quality traffic to your website but there are some proven ways with which you can get continuous traffic like banner adds, social bookmarking and social networking sites.

If you are looking for a cash free method of getting traffic, then definitely start with article marketing. However, it's no good just writing five articles and waiting for a miracle - you need to write consistently for at least four weeks if not more.

Joining a forum involved in your niche is also a good way to get traffic for free - above all you want targeted traffic, not just any old person wandering round the internet.

For paid traffic then pay per click advertising is good but you want to make sure you know what you are doing (search for advice on this forum). That's my 2 cents worth - pretty much what everyone else is saying, eh!

The best traffic is REPEAT TRAFFIC.

Here’s my recommended method for anyone to generate traffic and really start making money online (and can be done with NO budget):

    1) Choose a niche that you’re preferably passionate about.

    2) Create a free report, course, audio, or video that you can give away for FREE. It doesn’t have to be long and drawn out or anything, just make sure it provides useful information to your niche.

    3) Give that “freebie” away in exchange for name and email address via a “squeeze page”. If you can’t afford an autoresponder service, MailChimp has a free option for your first 500 subscribers (which is plenty enough to be in profit before you reach 500 subscribers).

    4) Focus on building TRUST with your list. Send them 2 pure value mailers for every one promotion that you send their way. Make sure the “pure value” mailers actually provide value. You can give them a high quality article, or direct them to another relevant freebie.

    5) On promotion days, make sure you’re promoting high quality offers. Before you’ve earned A LOT of credibility with your list, consider promoting lower priced items such as $7 offers. Once your list is pretty big and you’ve had time to earn a lot of trust, you’ll be able to make money on more higher priced products and services easier.

It’s as simple as that really. Just focus on building your list as fast as you can, and always be thinking of your next mailer. From there, all you have to do is STICK with it and your list, as well as your INCOME will continue to rise.

I recommend doing a 4-6 day mailing schedule because it’s enough time in between to not annoy your list, but still keeps you fresh in their minds (so they don’t forget about you and how they got on your list). It also gives you plenty of time to prepare your next mailer.

I detail that entire process step-by-step in my report (sig), in case you’re interested in pursuing that “money making” method. Hope that helps!

If he knew how to code this, he probably wouldn't be having this problem. Although, creating your own simple automated programs is an excellent advanced technique.

As far as autopilot goes though, more or less nothing is truly autopilot. If it is it's shady and might get you banned. You can develop nearly autopilot sites if you put in a ton of hard work promoting, SEOing, ect...first.

There are a lot of way to get traffic and I had see some of the reply already mention a lot. The most important is you get the knowledge and apply it. The more effort you put in the right direction will result in good traffic.

One sure way is to get lots of backlinks to your website. Preferably with your link on the home page of the site you are linking to. This would definitely do wonders for you.

If you know about SEO then you can get huge traffic from search engine. software or program is unable to give you targeted traffic.
