Recent IM Guru Kidnapping

So, I'm not going to name names in this post, because that's just not polite. But I got an email a few weeks ago from a "big name" promoting a product. I liked the product and I thought it might help me with my business, so I bought it. The product was a piece of software and actually turned out to be kind of buggy, but I know enough coding to get around it.

I didn't buy the OTO backend, but I might later (it's not actually an OTO if you keep the page and can go back whenever, but whatever). The OTO is a limited number offer and it has one of those automatic counter things telling you how many are left. I keep going back to check the OTO and less than 10 people have bought it in however many weeks since it was opened. Today however, I got another email from the "big name" selling this product again.

So my question is were there any Guru Kidnapping's lately that I hadn't heard about?

or

Why would anyone keep pushing a product that obviously isn't converting and isn't really all that awesome if you don't know how to fix the bugs?

Of course maybe the front end converts really well and the "big name" is making enough money upfront. I don't know, but this is one of those times where you just really want to know what is going through a person's head.

the email you recieved may be from an affiliate for that product. IMers send out 5-8 emails pushing the same product. Its just the way it works

Perhaps the counter isn't as "automatic" as they'd have you believe

  • Greg - That's cool but if I ever need a testimonial you better be the first one their saying that you steal my copy. And I'm totally jealous. If I could live anywhere in the world right now it would probably be Chiang Mai. Well... I could live anywhere in the world... but you get the idea.

Sharma - Sorry I wasn't clear. The email was from the same "big name" both times, but he was promoting somebody else's product.

Curtis - Yeah the thought occurred to be, but you think they would update it at least once a week.
