I know Skype let you do it but I think it's like 5 bucks a month.

I'd like to know a good service that will give you a 1-800 or 1-888 telephone number that will ring through to a voicemail box -- so that it can function as a "customer service department." And then have the ability to check my messages from my computer. Any ideas?

Use kall8.com, I use it for exactly what you are wanting to do.

Google Voice rocks. You can do text/sms right from your computer. You can also make calls and forward calls to your cell phone. And it's free. Well making calls isn't free but their rates are cheap but the sms stuff is free.

Skype isn't free, but it does that... and is available outside the US... and doesn't need an invite.

    Hey Magic,

I would say Skype... If you want a number to go with it and to receive and send out calls and sms, then it would cost around $35 to set it up, and then less than $3 a month or go on that pay as you go... which is $10 per load, which in my experience the cheaper of the two.

    Hope this helps.
