Just get a VPS for about $40 a month and then you can control IP addresses totally.

Nearly all hosts are the same unless you have a dedicated server.

Its generally fine though. Google will see them all as independent sites, give them their own PR etc. The only thing you probably shouldn't do is to try to create links between them all. If you do Google will disregard the links as it will guess you are one network given that you have the same IP address on all of them.

If you move up to a reseller acct at HG ($25/month) you can host all domains without add-ons and have a cpanel for each site.

It's a good choice as you have control over the bandwidth for each site and can access all your site from the one Web Host Manager page.

It's definitely worth the extra money to me.

        So Kay...

If I upgrade to a reseller account, I can have an outsourcer "work" on one of my domains without them having access to all of my domains?

        Am I thinking correctly?

Search engines treat subdomains as separate domain names. Meaning, the way google page rank flows through links to the main site are different. If you want a subdomain to have pagerank - you have to build backlinks to it separate from the main site.

Having a subdomain can provide you with targeted keywords on your domain name. Go take a look at the way companies like fox news, yahoo and CNN handle their subdomains.

Creating a large number of subdomains with duplicate content is against google webmaster guidelines.

Webmaster guidelines - Webmaster Tools Help

Don't create multiple pages, subdomains, or domains with substantially duplicate content.
So, are these subdomains going to be for duplicate content, or is each going to have its own content?

I am hosting many sites on my account and most of them have 1st page rankings so
I don't think it affects your rankings.

The majority of my blogs are hosted on hostgator shared hosting and they do fine, there is no penalty for addon domains, considering that the majority of sites on the net are probably addons, it would be a step too far even for google

I used to have virtual accounts on quite a few hosts and some of them let you add additional domains only as add-on domains. However, that didn’t make any difference to my sites as far as the SE traffic goes - it is actually quite convenient since once you FTP to the host you can see all your sites at once.

Please bear in mind that you would best choose a very secure password or have all your websites exposed if your login is breached

My sites are ranking pretty well. I haven't noticed any problems, and I really like their support.

I have seen negative consequences. Each domain should have a sep IP or big goog can crush them all if it does not like one. Also, now I use IP address from different regions. Like some from asia, some from europe, some from america. This is one messy game.

You can buy more Ip's in Hostgator. Anyway keeping many domains in a same IP won't be big issue.

I have used HostGator swamp plan for years and have multiple domains on the one account. I have never had a problem although when I first started I was a little paranoid about having all the sites under one umbrella.
