How NOT to sign up affiliates

There seems to be a growing trend lately where product owners are requiring potential affiliates to sign up with name and email to get access to the affiliate page where banners and other marketing materials are provided. Now that is fine and it is also ok to email those affiliates to let them know of any updates you have done in the marketing materials BUT if you start emailing affiliates with other offers, as if they are part of your marketing list, then that is a pretty much a guaranteed way of losing affiliates very quickly. In other words if someone signs up to promote your product, that is the only reason they signed up for your list, so DO NOT start spamming them with your affiliate links for other offers.

So true. I use second email account. So all useless spam and stuff i don't need won't bother me. Once in a while i log in to see what's there.

That's a great point and as an affiliate it does get frustrating signing up to promote a product only to have more products promoted to you.

One thing I have noticed as a vendor on Clickbank is how advanced the affiliate training pages have become. You can find some products whose affiliate resources page almost resembles a course in and of itself based on the material they provide to promote their product...pretty amazing!!

I'm not as bothered if they're offers to sign up for similar affiliate programs... but if they want to sell you a product (or sell a product that should "help" you sell theirs), forget it!

I also like it when they give you keywords for articles or article ideas - takes a little guesswork out of getting started.

Some are offering tons of keywords, sample emails and even articles.....sheesh, I thought I was ok with just providing graphics....clearly not the case anymore -

Sample emails are great - as long as they don't sound too much like a sales pitch But graphics are also nice, too, as I'm not the best graphic designer in the world

Yeah Tim, I think it is great when product owners provide you with as many tools as possible to help promote their product and I don't mind getting emails from them to let me know they've added some more materials or to give me some ideas about what has been working for other affiliates of theirs but when they start sending me emails selling me on another product that is not even theirs then I am outta there.

This is exactly how NOT to do business. Whenever I see someone who slickly puts me on their list to market to me I make sure to boycott them. I love when they e-mail me about why I stopped bringing in commissions for them and I let them know. I would give anything to see the look of embarrassment on their face.
