Keyword Elite vs Free Google Keyword Tool: Why the big discrepency? (And Is there an accurate one?)

I have been testing keywords on both Keyword Elite 2.0, as well as the free Google keyword tool and the results are head scratching to say the least. They don't match up at all!

For instance, I typed in the term 'acne' on both KE and the Google tool. Google tool claims that particular term gets 9,000,000 searches a month, while KE says it only gets 135,000. What's the issue here?

I would love it if anyone could recommend a tool that's actually accurate...

Thanks,

Mike

You are probably comparing broad match vs exact match.

If that's not it, you need to understand something...NO keyword tool is
100% accurate. The key is learning HOW to use the tool you're using
and adapt to the numbers you're getting.

Otherwise, you will drive yourself stark raving crazy.

They were both exact match. I could understand if a term was different by a couple thousand, but for the Google tool to say 9 million and KE to say 135,000... That's a bit much, don't you think?

Has anyone found a certain tool to be more accurate, in their opinion, than the others out there (paid or free)?

        I'm sorry, but you're mistaken.

I just typed acne into the Google keyword tool for exact match and came
        up with 135,000.

You need to learn to use your tools before you start wondering why there
        are differences.

You're right, I made a mistake. No need to be rude about it, Stevie.

    Thanks for the help otherwise.

    Mike

Edit: Read that wrong. Google tool still appears to show it at 9 million in quotes. Screen shot:

Don't know what I'm doing wrong, but could use the help obviously.

You're still not doing an exact match. I just did it, and got 135k as the number of searches.

There is no such thing as a completely accurate keyword tool. The most active searches do tend to show as being active across most keyword tools.

Keyword tool results are also influenced by counting the searches done by keyword tools and the marketers and SEO services providers who use them for one thing.

Picking keywords just from the numbers given by a few tools usually is not enough to make a really informed decision.

Once you narrow down to a short list of select keywords then check the competing pages by actually searching those terms. Follow what people are saying there, is it really in the context of your approach and goals?

If you have the budget run each one in adwords and see which convert the best.

Intuition about what the person searching that term is after is helpful too.

Even with all that it is then important to track the results.

I have a client I got on page one for these 3 nearly identical terms

    make money with twitter
    make money on twitter
    make money from twitter

the first one sends 5 times more traffic. Why? I really don't know, i see it does so I build more links with that than the others.

If you look at analytics you often see many keywords bringing traffic. The way to make that happen faster is to take the 100 top keywords and use them all in content with the best ones as titles and emphasized but the others in the body of the content.

    Hope that helps some

    Regards,
