Aweber - can I use a custom parser with single opt-in?

Hi,

I have a list for buyers of one of my products. After people buy the product, they get added to an aweber list via a custom parser.

Now, apparently aweber requires people to confirm their email (double opt-in) if it was added through a parser.

Is there any way to avoid this and make them automatically subscribed?

I am using amember to deliver the product.

    Hi Sara,

Have you contacted Aweber's support team? They will be able to give you a much more detailed answer. Aweber prefer confirmed double opt-in. My advice would be to rethink your email marketing strategy.

Set-up a double opt-in page that offers a free report which acts as a presell for your product and set up a 30 day auto-responder series. If during that time they purchase your product, you shouldn't have much difficulty transfering them over to your buyers list since they have allready confirmed they wish to receive email from you.

If you do go for the double op - in it is a good idea to put a screen shot of what the new subscriber can expect to see when the do subscribe. This has been shown to greatly increase the abandonment rate as there are a lot of people who just do not understand what is going on when the receive the email confirmation and assume ohh, I did that already. See - that's the problem. Why should they need to confirm again?

It's annoying to them, especially when the confirmation email can't be found - which happens from time to time.

There must be a way to do this - I see it being done all the time when I buy products.

        Sara,

The reason why Aweber has such a good email delivery rate is because they go to great lengths to protect peoples privacy. If a person subscribes to one of your lists for a free report and they then go on to make a purchase, yes it may seem logical to you and I that they should then be moved to a buyers type list, however Aweber sees it differently. In order to keep spam complaints to a low and deliverability rates at a high, Aweber wants to have a record of people subscribing to each and every list.

It can be a pain at times however I can see where they are coming from. The moment they relax on rules like this then all of a sudden they get a huge increase in spam complaints and their string reputation they have built up over years with all of the email clients goes straight down the girgle. And that in turn effects you and I because fewer of our emails end up getting through to our leads.

I also forgot to mention that this IS possible with Aweber using their analytics tools...

You can set it up by placing some aweber tracking code on your thankyou page, then each of your leads who ends up on the thankyou page (ie: all those who buy your product) can then be tagged as a buyer. You can then followup with all the people on your list who have bought that particular product while those who haven't, will not receive the email. One list, different segments.

You can do this same thing for any number of different products and also normal optin pages, etc, etc. You can even tag each product with a price so you can keep track of how much each customer has spent with you over the years, etc, etc.

Nifty stuff once you get the hang of it.

That's a great solution. I will look into it. Thanks so much!

The analytics account is a little more expensive however the possibilities it creates for more personalized followup could be worth a lot more to you over the following years.

One other thing I didn't mention, I use amember and aweber also. The way I have set it up is that when a person purchases my product and ends up on the amember thankyou page, it basically thanks them for their purchase and then has a big box that says "Register Here for All Product Updates" or something simple like that. I have also made it so their email address is automatically carried over from the Clickbank order page so they do not have to re-enter it again. All they need do is click the button and their email is added to my buyers list. This buyers list is single optin by the way because only those who have bought my product can see the thankyou page and because the email addresses are automatically inserted into the form, I know 99.9% of them will be correct.

This has worked very well for me. I also use the aweber automation tool which automatically unsubscribes them from my prospect list as soon as they subscribe to the buyers list. This way I don't keep trying to convince them to buy something they have already bought.

Very nice. Just curious - what percentage submit the registration form?
