Article Marketing: Disappointment or Joy?

Article marketing is a major component of my overall marketing strategy, and it's been extremely effective for me. I've had several of my articles featured on the front pages of SiteProNews and PromotionWorld, and as a result of that exposure, my marketing consulting business has grown to the point where I've actually stopped accepting new clients.

In addition, I was approached about participating in what turned out to be some very lucrative joint venture deals. Needless to say, I am absolutely delighted with the results of my article marketing efforts.

My question to you is this: What has been your experience with article marketing. Disappointment or joy?

I am an article writer and I have hd joy seeing some of my articles being featured in press releases and the like.

The only dissapointment is that it takes a while to build your name and to be recognised and just like any other IM business it takes a lot of hardwork.

All said and done I think it is one step towards the optimum internet business

bkilela, keep at it, and keep working hard. The end result is well worth the sweat equity you put into it.

Yes, it does take time to get there. Determination and patience are critical.

Couldn't have said it better myself! So many people are falling into the instant gratification trap. Yes, article marketing takes time to build momentum, but the rewards can last a long time.

A friend of mine made 2 sales last week - the referring site? An article she published over a year ago!

PPC can give you some immediate results, but once you stop paying, the results stop. With article marketing, you never know when someone is going to stumble on one of your articles, like it, and become a customer.

Well, let's just say article marketing made me my first dollar online back in the days when I first started out.

It made me a believer then... that making a full-time income online was actually possible.

That's great, Nicole! I liken article marketing to putting money in a savings account. When you first start out, it doesn't look like much. But keep making those deposits, and one day you'll have quite a little nest egg.

Article marketing indeed bring tremendous joy to me although it took some time to see good results. By the way, why limit yourself only in SiteproNews and PromotionWorld? In fact you can increase your credibility by submiting your articles to other well-known article directories like Ezinearticles and Articlesbase.

What I am about to say will probably shock a lot of people since I have been
doing AM successfully for many years now.

IF I had a boat load of money that I could just pump out there without
having to worry about cash flow or anything like that and had the smarts
to run a drop dead PPC campaign, I would have never bothered with article
marketing. But my initial PPC efforts were so-so to say the least and never
brought me anywhere near the return of my articles.

And that was when PPC was EASY.

I don't have the time or the patience to become a PPC expert. And make
no mistake about it, today, with the way Google is cracking down on even
some of the big spenders (read the horror stories of shut down accounts)
you REALLY have to be damn good at PPC.

      I'm not.

So I stick with what works for me.

But make no mistake about it. Article marketing, unless you're willing to
do some things that I'm just not comfortable doing, is a LONG process
and doesn't give you the immediate traffic that PPC gives you.

Yes, with PPC, you have to keep paying and paying and paying. And
therein lies one of the drawbacks. With articles, you can have some out
there that perform month after month like I do.

But you also have some turkeys that don't do squat.

I wish I had hired a mentor, just around the time that PPC started getting
hard, to show me EXACTLY how to create a profitable campaign beyond
my pittance of a couple hundred bucks a month so I could stop writing
      altogether.

      How's that for honest?

WOW... Can we say "good way to make anyone cringe and close their eyes"... YIKES... I am also a little confused as to your post.

Now, to me Article Writing and Marketing has been a joy. Actually, writing overall has always been very fulfilling to me. Hence, why I became a reporter...

I think a lot of people CAN write but FEW can tell a captivating story, write a compelling article and even fewer can create what could become a quintessential piece. So to me, writing is the very essence of who I am, as a person and as a professional. WOW... spilled my soul out !!!

The key with article marketing is knowing how to use it. I firmly believe that a combination of quality and quantity are important, and some of the big time article marketers in this forum (Tim Gorman, Steve Wagenheim, John Schwartz) prove this.

I don't want to speak for any of these guys, but looking at what they teach and their own article profiles you can see that they have written a lot of articles, but they also focus on quality.

Conduct in depth keyword research, write quality articles, write a lot of articles, and promote your articles!

Article marketing is perhaps the BEST form of FREE marketing. Not only is it an integral part of Off-Page SEO but it is indeed one of the best ways to get your site exposed and grow a name for yourself. My experience with article marketing has been phenomenal, only of course after I hired my ongoing Article Writer, she is not only great, but has pulled through whenever I needed last minute articles.

YET, I think most IM beginners overlook that one of the most important aspects of Article Marketing is NOT necessarily increasing traffic and visitors to your site. But rather what I mentioned above, GAINING respect due to the knowledge and information you presented in the article. Articles are supposed to help you become an authority in addition to bringing you business.

      Thanks, for your feedback, Jenny.

Yes, articles can indeed help you present yourself as an authority on a particular subject... provided, of course, you actually know what you're talking about and are skilled enough to effectively communicate your expertise.

    My experience?

If I had to sum it up into one of the words you chose, I would say Joy. Overwhelmingly.

That's not to say it has been easy, but it has been an excellent traffic generation method for me in many, many niches.

The thing that I've found with article marketing...

Is that the majority of those who "teach" it, are using very outdated methods. Ones that worked 5 or 6 years ago.

The internet changes SO much that any method will flex it's performance from week to week. Sure, the fundamentals are there and the basics seem to be evergreen.

But to really keep a method working for you, take some time to watch trends, and the evolution of strategy.

Article marketing has always been best when you calculate your actions. Checking your output of content.. how it ranks, where it ranks, overall performance.. further than just checking the article directories and traffic numbers.

Places like EzineArticles, GoArticles, should simply be your first port of call with content that has already been published on your own website. The scope and reach of your articles and content goes much, much further than the article directories that you initially publish to.

Don't allow yourself to be sucked into basic article marketing and think you are limited to just that.

Learn from people who are actively involved in moving this niche and strategy. Learn from people who are evolving what it takes to make a successful article marketing campaign.

They are teaching it, and some of them are teaching it very well. The old stuff is more or less outdated now.

Be careful who you take advice from.... don't take anything as Gospel.

    Test things for yourself!!!!

Your numbers, stats and figures are more important than anything else.. don't be crippled by poor advice... get your own data before you make a judgement.

    Peace

I would say both, sometimes I think I'm going to get a great response and I don't, other times I'm blown away by how successful my articles are. More and more I think it has a lot to do with how lucky you are with the time you post it. If you post it and immediately you get a bunch of views, only more views will come, while if you get a real slow start it is hard to fight back from that.

I know that SEO, niches, and keywords can play a big part in all this, but I really do think you either do or don't get lucky with when you post.

Though none of this matters if you already have a strong following.

I absolutely LOVE to write. So even if my articles didn't generate sales I'd still write them.

Fortunately, I've seen a lot of success with writing high quality articles for both my products, and the products of others. It takes some time to generate enough momentum to jusitfy all the hard work you put into it, but so far article writing has been extremely lucrative for my business.

Let's face it, not having a boss, not waking up to an alarm, and logging into paypal half asleep with fresh money in the bank is WELL worth all the effort. If you don't like writing articles then farm them out to someone who does. With time, article distribution is well worth the investment.

        Thanks David lol....

You need a good attitude in this business...especially in the beginning...because its usually a long hard road to success but as long as you don't get out of the car...you'll get to your destination

Wow did I come up with the best quote or what!

I'm surprised at how much hate there is against article marketing ... its been one of the few traffic sources thats been consistent for me. If you take a really close look at a lot of articles out there, most of them are horrid. The same info over and over again. There are way too many people trying to re-invent the wheel...

If you're able to write something short (300 words) and be creative, original and honest... it'll drive targeted traffic pretty heavily.

It's effects are sometimes residual but once you have been consistently doing it for a few months, the traffic will actually be very stable.

Actually, it takes longer than a few months, but you make a valid point.

Article marketing is definitely a joy when you get a lot of comments on your articles. Getting a bunch of views is always great, but I always like comments the most.

The traffic I get from EZA is ALWAYS my #2 referrer. How's that for results?

Article marketing isn't just about getting traffic. It's about getting traffic that converts. Okay, EZA is your #2 referrer. But does that traffic convert?
