Press Releases - How do you make something "NEWSWORTHY" for your business?

I always hear the spiel about how press releases are a great promotional tool, you should be writing them all the time to gain exposure, blah blah blah. However, when you are simply running a day-to-day business, what makes you think anything you are doing is actually "newsworthy" enough for the media to actually want to bother with it?

I mean realistically in the day to day operations of a business, there isn't really much going on anyone is going to care about...

Suggestions please.

Most of the time it is NOT newsworthy but you should try your best to make it seem like it is. If you manage to pull this off successfully and get picked up by some popular news sites you will get tons of traffic in addition to a strong backlink. Also not many people I know do them everyday, they are more of a once in a while thing.

Take a look at this example my old coach gave me. I use this every time I write one and I am sure it will help you and anyone who reads this.

Proof Why Internet Marketers Who Struggle to Find Affiliates Should Consider Get Affiliates Now!

Omaha, NE - GetAffiliatesNow.com has put the pay-per-click industry on notice: paying for website traffic will soon be as outdated as typewriters are today.
Drew Laughlin, creator of the Get Affiliates Now! system recently stated, "Our new partner recruiting system has taken the biggest problem - generating traffic to your website - and turned it into a step-by-step process that anyone can follow to generate free website traffic fast. Where most companies in this market space want you to pay for web traffic our solution provides a way for partners to send targeted traffic to you without the product and site owner lifting a finger.
This revolutionary partner recruiting systems works for book authors and information product marketers alike. In fact, it can be used for any product or service that can be sold from a website.
Using his own system Drew generated hundreds of active partners to promote many of his products. For his first book, Expect Success - How to Accomplish Anything Using Your Inner Circle of Success, he generated 17 pre-release endorsements, 27 promo-partners and over 100 affiliates. All of which agreed to promote his book in one form or fashion resulting in a best-seller.
It works like this. You build a list of 300 or so potential partners. Or you can outsource this step if you like. Then you contact them on an individual basis. But that's where the "secret sauce" comes in. "Can you imagine trying to send 300 individual emails? Of course not. No one would ever do it!" Drew declares. "Instead, we show you how to use a program that is most-likely already on your computer to reach out to these potential partners on an individual level to recruit them. The end result is 25 to 100 or more active partners promoting your products.
The beauty of the GAN! System is not only is it proven to work but it is presented in a step-by-step format that anyone can follow to achieve free website traffic and find affiliates for their products. It is also repeatable. So you can use the system over and over again to create the results and outcomes you want.

Have a look at plenty of news sites to see what is in the news and if you can position your PR to support or refute it. Think of how Kevin Costner positioned his oil/water separation system with stories of the oil spill.

I have no agenda but to help those in the same situation. This I feel will pay the bills.

It is always possible to do something newsworthy in your business- quite easily and quite cheaply.

If you cannot work out what is newsworthy about your business maybe you need to get some advice from an expert.

Go to PRWEB.com and review the various past press releases. Find ones you like and check to see what kind of coverage they got by putting the title of the article in quotes and checking on google.com and yahoo.com. Copy the techniques used by the successful press releases you found. Do that a few times and you will catch on to how the writer takes a rather mundane topic and makes it "news worthy" and how he formats the press release.

I've considered press releases for a while now. I've written a few before as an experiment for an old site of mine. It worked fairly well but I never really had anything interesting to write about. I'd write about seriously uninteresting stuff and put a slightly unique spin on things.

My question now is how do you target press releases? I want to write some for a client who is setting up a brand new Gym with a twist. I think there is massive potential but at the end of the day I want the exposure to be as fixed to his UK county as possible, or even better - the city he is based in. How am I going to go about doing this.

    Would really appreciate some advice.

Its all about creating a spin. Is it new? Is it different? Is it unlike anything else? You have to find the angle to create a spin.
