Just got laid off - ready to go full force IM!

Good, luck, and I mean that, I am going to offer you some advice that you did not ask for and that you probably will not take.

I have to really admire your outlook, most people would be crying in a beer about now, but you may have prepared to some degree.

IM, for most people is a here to day gone tommorow venture, most of the time it takes years to get the kind of experience that you need to really make a living online.

Since you already have some experience you have a better chance of succeeding, but unless you have a plan, then you should plan on failure.

I know that sounds bad, but it is the truth, if you do not have a solid plan, then you should probably find a job and do IM in your part time.

Contrary to what you see in all the marketing products online today is that most people do not make a thousands of dollars for a few hours of work.

You can look right now in the WSO section and see 50 different offers to make you 2 or 3 thousand bucks in your spare time, but how many people can do that?

Obvioiusly you have been working part time, and that is great better than most people ever do, but how much money have you made, how many times have you seen a product offered, that promised to make you 300 bucks an hour?

Now ask your self this question how many of these things actually did what they said they could do?

If the answer to that was even one of them you would not be here now, you would be making that 300 bucks per hour.

I watch the forums of several marketing related websites every day and I see the same thing over and over and over again, promises to help people make money, but never have I seen anyone stand up and say here I did it, and here is my proof, i have seen people that were paid to do that,

but they never say here is my proof.

Look, keep that good outlook but get a Job, and do IM in your spare time, until you are making so much money that you do not know if you want to pay off your house or buy a new car.

When you get to that point, then you will not need luck.

When I went full-time into IM, there were times of overwhelming busyness and all that stuff that came along...

But not a single time have I wondered "Why am I doing this?"

You seem really passionate and determined to succeed, and I'm sure that will carry you far in this journey.

Sorry to hear about your walking papers, Rob, but it sounds like you have the perfect attitude to make your IM successful! Persistence and hard work do pay off. The sky is the limit as to what you can accomplish over the next 2 months.

A positive outlook is a great start. But you have to know that making a full time income online will require more work (and sleepless nights) than your day job.

When people say that Internet marketing is full time, it really is. In fact, IMers always find a lack of time in what they are doing. Sometimes, I even mutter to myself that if I can have more time, I can build more backlinks or create more products.

But I am not here to discourage you though. Just have a plan in place. Allot a specific time frame, let's say 4 months. If you still do not feel some progress online, then switch to part time and then go at it again.

Just don't give up.

First of all, Rob, good luck. I hope you are still this excited eight weeks from now when your severance runs out. I mean that in a good way.

Here's a bit of unsolicited advice to go with the good wishes...

Keep an eye on the calendar and on your progress. Even when the severance checks stop coming in, the bills will continue.

Don't burn any bridges to those folks asking you for resumes. If it looks like things may take longer than you planned (you did plan, right?), you may need to fall back on a regular income while you continue building.

One thing that will help, unless you walked to work and brown-bagged it every day, is that your living expenses will go down somewhat. If you factor that, your part-time income, and careful budgeting, you may be able to extend your two months for some time.

But don't wait until the very last second, when you've spent your last dime, to start looking for a fallback. Desperation has its own peculiar smell, and most employers don't like it...

So again, good luck. I hope you make it in your time frame. Just don't sabotage yourself from reaching your ultimate goal.

Good Luck Rob! You really can do it. Just like anything in life, you get out what you put in. So come out the gate putting in as much time and effort as you can. If you put in consistent effort and keep going no matter what, you will be successful. The beginning is always the hardest but once you get the ball rolling, things get a lot easier.

Perfect opportunity for you right now.

Get multiple streams going - do some writing, create some of your own products, build a list and don't look back.

Hey thanks everyone for the good wishes.

I just wanted to respond to a few pieces of advice that I appreciate and I think are great to keep in mind.

First of all - have a plan. I will get a plan together. My problem so far is that I wander from one thing to the next, never picking ONE thing and sticking with it until it's working and on some sort of auto-pilot. I have some ideas on what I want to do, and I will definitely be treating my time off as a JOB and doing what it takes to succeed at my IM job just like any other.

Lucky for me, I'm still getting paychecks for the next two months, and then my severance kicks in which is about another two months worth of pay, so I'm OK until mid-October or later. Not that I want to be without a "real" job that whole time, but if it turns out to take that long, I don't have to worry about money.

So at most I have 4 months to get a "real" job. Not that it's impossible to earn a full-time income online in under 4 months (I'm talking about $5K+/month), but I know that things can take time and Rome wasn't built in a day. But with my time off if I could even reach $1K or $2K per month, then I would at least to be able to take a job with less pay if I had to.

I will be putting my full effort in job searching in my career path, but at the same time working my IM plan to try to get something going and growing. It's funny that you always read those sales letters about "I got laid off and was about to lose my house/wife/kids/dog when i stumbled upon this system that made me $10,000 in just a week!", but maybe I'll be writing a similar salesletter soon but it will all be true! LOL

It's funny how much people have replied and they know ZERO about me. I love this forum.

I lost my job a few years back also. At this time I had also separated from my girlfriend of 4 years. It was truly difficult mentally and emotionally. I decided to take on IM and a few years later I am making a living from home.

Follow your dreams! Focus as much energy as you can to taking action, learning and then taking action again and again.

Some advice if your wiling to listen to some more...lol

Apply everything you learn.

Don't just read and study.

Apply everything you feel is worth a try. The key for me was applying what I was learning while I was learning it.

This was the fastest way for me to actually learn all this crazy Internet Marketing stuff!

I want to wish you all the best as well and I really hope that you make it. You will get varying advice and views, but ultimately, its all up to you. No half-ass effort, pick a solid and proven plan and go for it.

I know this will sound corny to many, but a friend had a local psychic "party" where he did readings for about 10 of us back in January. For me, he told me that he saw a big "black line" in my career path, and that this could be either a shake up in my job, a job loss, or maybe even moving on to something much better, but definitely something BIG happening, and he targeted June. Weird. But true.

Like Tim Franklin said above, no one ever really says "here's my proof" to all of the WSOs or systems/methods that supposedly will make me a boatload of cash overnight. A lot of great testimonials, but no "real" proof.

Well, not that I'll be using just one method, but I'll try to post on this thread maybe once a week how things are going and how much I'm making if any. At least it will give me some extra motivation to succeed so I can actually show the PROOF that people never seem to want to show!

Rob, as far as wishing you luck, I cannot do it! Because I've learned that luck is the foundation short careers are built on.

Remember David Tyree and that incredible SuperBowl catch? That was luck he hasn't been able to reproduce.

Remember the hit song by Benny Mardones entitled, "Into The Night" As great is his voice and range, it was luck that he has not been able to reproduce.

Here's the bottom line; scratch luck! If you get lucky, enjoy the moment, quickly forget about it and then get back to WORK!

Here's what you should do NOW!

(1). Establish a IM game plan NOW! If you have no plan, you just planned to fail!
(2). Work that plan everyday as if you will be on your last dime by tomorrow night!
(3). Discipline yourself to build a successful IM business NOW!
(4). Eliminate "All" distractions to your daily IM business activities
(5). Treat your online business as if you were on the clock and being watched by an overbearing boss.
(6). Never slack until you start banking money and are on autopilot
(7). Don't listen to IM non-producers; although their intentions are great, they will sorely mislead you.
(8). Get on a IM Brainstorm Team or create one. The old adage, "Two heads are better than one" is true. With the right IM Brainstorm Team, you shorten your learning curve
(9). You don't get paid to surf forums, so don't spend your days making posts while your IM business is dying a slow death.
(10). Be aggressive in your IM endeavors but also be very intelligent
(11). Don't try to cut corners; successful IMers who are making money, know there is no short cuts to success no matter how many new IM secrets, toys and software applications come out.
(12). Build one successful "Website" before proceeding forward to building others. If you haven't learned how to make one site successful, having fifty sites just means that you are fifty times ineffectual as a IMer.
(13). Once you learn how to make one site successful, then rinse and repeat!

As one who purposefully left his day job too soon I can say that Crew Chief has nailed it for you. Those are all things someone should have told me when I prematurely ventured into IM full time.

Looking back and seeing all the stupid mistakes I made, I agree with all of it. We make our own luck, and it can be good or bad depending on the raw materials we use. It's much easier to start with a fresh slate like you are than to go back and mop up the mess later.

Good luck and you're clearly in the right place to achieve success for yourself. Just look at all the support you've got!

That's good! That's really good that you're being positive about it. You're right it might not be in 2 months but with the determination you have, nothing's impossible. Good luck!

Some real great given already. OK, my turn!

1) Make a plan.

2) Start mapping out what you want to test and get it online.

3) Investigate others that have went before you and get to the
truth on what the degree of difficulty is and how much it will cost to start.

4) Going offshore is still a great way to get work done for sites and etc. (see me if you want contacts I have used).

5) Now, execute that plan.

OK, now for the job. Get one! Get back to work asap. Screw the unemployment as a means for security. Not being mean but for two months that is not much time. It can take months and months to get back to work. Don't settle for what you are unhappy with but don't lose the opportunity to go to work either. There will be bills and costs to start a business like domains, sites, hosting, testing, testing, and testing various advertising. Many people make mistakes here.

It took me two years while I was working to ramp up in newspapers and lost money until I figured out ONLY ONE ad at the time and thank goodness on year three I did over 100k a month and paid myself over $440,000 that year. I then thought I was invincible and could do anything in business... not so. It took alot of money and time to figure other stuff out. Also, save your money like it is the last day of business. Don't spend it fast on stuff you don't need. Pay your taxes quarterly so you don't end up with a bill there too.

Hey, we are all happy for you but look at it like this... there is no time for failure and being without money can just suck. No dates, fun, and bills. Get back to work.

Trust me, you can have a job that sucks and that pays little, meanwhile you will go to work with a smile on your face knowing that everyone else is broke and you have a 100k in your acct. Then talk to an accountant and look at your costs, refunds, sales, etc. and ask if he/she thinks you are ready to resign. I hope this helps.

Also, always listen to those that have the experience with the good and the bad :-).

As someone who was in a VERY similar situation to you only a few months ago I can relate VERY VERY well....

Sorry to hear of your job loss and here are a couple things I learned that might help you out...

- Your attitude and mindset are EXTREMELY important
- It's going to be hard than you think it is
- Stay focused on ONE thing...find your groove and beat the crap out of it until it pays you
- Be disciplined with your time. Create a schedule and stick to it. You'll finm dit way too easy to screw off if you don't.
- Unsubscribe from most of the lists you're on
- Find the people who's information you're able to learn from and then turn into profit...stick with them and ditch EVERYONE else...I don't care how cool Mr. Guru of the week seems to be...

Thanks everyone for the EXCELLENT advice! I found an idea that I'm running with and I already have my step-by-step action plan in place.

In addition to that, I already applied for 8 jobs, got a call from HR about one, got a totally random email from a headhunter I hadn't talked to in 3 years about a job he thought was a good fit (and he sent it on the exact same day I got my walking papers! weird...), and sent my resume out to my buds who are in my industry because they are telling me that their company is hiring. So something may come of all this.

But in the meantime, I have my ideas and I'll be working those first thing Monday morning! I'm also going to be running a WSO or maybe two that I've had on the back burner, so that will help with a little extra income boost.

I make my own luck. I am a success. I can't wait to get started on this new phase of my career!!

Hey Rob, The same thing happened to me last year. Like you, I decided to turn to IM. Good luck and Be prepared to work and to work hard!

Internet Marketing is no easy task especially when you're heading as a startup BUT, if you already know what you want to get started and also the things you need to focus on plus the systems to automate them, then it gets easier and easier as you learn more and as time goes by.

Also, while your business will also evolve at any time, outsourcing is a great way for you to still live the lifestyle you wanted.

Any chance we could get an update on Razztek and others who lost their jobs and took on IM by the horns?

This thread kinda fizzled and died... anyone with some good story to tell?
