Anyone want to help a college student find direction?

Hi guys. I finally decided to join the Warrior Forum and learn more about IM. I haven't joined the War Room since I have no clue about it or anything. But I am just learning about affiliate marketing and I want to get into it.

So far, I've been looking at Niche Blitzkrieg, Tycoon Cashflow, and Wealthy Affiliate.

I've been learning more and more each day, but I am lost on where to start.

Any advice?

I'd say join the war room. It's worth 100 times the price. The info in there is priceless.
What do you mean by the money is in the list?

What exactly does the War Room offer? I don't have a site or anything.

Take what people have to say with a grain of salt. Talk is cheap. Don't believe inflated claims.

Set yourself reasonable goals and stick to them.

        Goal #1: Make $1/day.
        Goal #2: Make $10/day.
        Goal #3: etc etc

And this above all: your intentions should be to help others... if its not, you won't go anywhere. You'll set off potential client's BS detectors.

        Don't buy too many products.

And this above all - whatever you decide to market, make sure its something you enjoy

    Here are some quick tip
    -Buy nothing

There is a lot of free information out there, all you have to do is look for it. There are to many IM products that will promise you the moon, the stars, and even the hat off our revered forum leaders head for a small chunk of change.

You need to learn the basics of internet marketing before buying anything, that will stop you from going to one thing or another. Take a few weeks to just read, and research.

This forum is an excellent place to start.

Once you've grown familiar with internet marketing, then you can begin to consider what skills you have.

A writer, an editor, good with photoshop? Go from there, each of us should play to our strengths.

One thing you'll have to get used to is not getting paid daily like at a "real" job. Don't give up even after six months or a year just because you're not making full-time income.

I myself got discouraged and decided to IM part-time and write as a freelance professional part-time. As of recently, I've been able to turn my freelancing profession into an IM membership website.

So the moral of the story is, try to use any professional or real-life experience you have to create a product, write articles, build a list or whatever - the more you can relate to people (or at least appear to relate with them) the better.

Also -- try to do as MUCH for free as possible - do article marketing. Start a free blog. Post YouTube videos with links to your websites or affiliate products. There are plenty of free methods of IM that you should look into before buying expensive products or investing in PPC.

I'm a "college" student too. I put that in quotes because I'm actually in university...same difference.

You know what I did to find a direction? I spent countless hours reading, thinking, learning, and doing. Made tons of mistakes and wasted money too, of course.

When you ask open-ended questions such as "where do I start?", you'll get a hundred different answers.

Build a list, stick up a blog, do Adsense, PPC, CPA, join the War Room, buy my sh*t, don't buy anything...

Be careful when people give you opinions disguised as facts. There are many different ways to make money online and all of them require work, smarts, determination, and investment (time and/or money).

My advice? Spend the next few weeks or even months reading. Then, pick ONE way of making money that you like. Then, continue reading, but only on this one subject. Then do it.

Thank you all for the responses. I am starting to realize how big IM is and how there are so many ways to break into the field. My first goal is to make $1. Yup. Just $1. If I can make a $1, then I know it's possible. Plus, it'll be my first dollar.

And I've seen some free ways out there that I can use, well one in particular.

Just out of curiosity though, should I wait to join the War Room once I've gained more knowledge?

Depends if it's in your budget or not, I recommend visiting fiverr.com. It's an easy way to make a little start up money online and the jobs are simple.

What's your goal? Do you want some extra easy money, or do you want to build a business that you will grow even after you get out of school? The KIND of method you pursue to make money online will differ greatly.

Have you checked out the "Make Money Online" forum? It contains links to free ebooks. I just looked, and there seems to be a couple on the first page that may interest you. You need a system, or a blueprint, that you can follow step-by-step. If you're on a tight budget, try to learn as much as you can on your own, without spending anything. When you get stuck or have questions, ask them here.

Although I am a member of the War Room, and believe that it is worth many times the cost of membership, I would hold off in joining if I were in your position. It could be a bit overwhelming for someone just starting out. Good luck!

No, I've never heard of it before. I'll check it out since I wouldn't mind having a blueprint or so to start out with.

My short term goal is to put a few extra dollars in my pocket, but my long term goal is to use AM to help pay off my student loans when I graduate and continue using it as a side project.

And thanks legitam, I'll check out the ebook. I'm an Accounting major with emphasis on forensics accounting.

    Hi ChickenMan,

If you're a complete beginner, get hold of Tony Shepherd's "Blog Your Wage". I know you're more interested in affiliate marketing than blogging, but BYW is very user friendly and explains a great deal about how IM works in general. And it's free.

I'll check it out. Thanks guys for all the ideas, any more, feel free to suggest them.

@legitam - Your eBook's url from the email comes back as a 404 error. Is it still online? I'd use PM, but I don't have enough posts for it.

avoid the "make $1 to prove I can do it" trap. It will have you pursueing "business" models that are not easily scalable, or ones which are not a very efficient use of ones time. And once people head down that path, it seems they just go further and further down it and end up working their butts of for trivial returns.

Learn how to build a list, and how to make money from it.

    my 2 cents...
