Outsourcing Questions? I'm In CEBU Philippines now to FIND the answers.

Dear Warriors,

Good morning from Cebu City, Cebu Island, Republic of Philippines.

I just arrived here last night from Japan. Brought the office along with me (my netbook),
so I can work on my current projects from someplace a bit warmer and sunnier than Japan. (It's the height of rainy season in Japan right now.)

While I'm here, I'm also checking out a couple of outsourcing centers and meeting directly with potential staff for myself to handle some of marketing aspects of my online business - mainly implementing and scaling my own seo, sem and online marketing strategies

The main problem I've been having with the whole "outsourcing" thing though is not being able to meet the people - either the potential employees or the outsource center managers - in person, so it's been touch and go for me before now. Also, I'm not one to blindly trust the information hard-sold by so-called "outsourcing gurus", so...

...I figured I better come here and check things out for myself - in person!

Figured while I was here, besides my own questions I'll be asking, I ought to see if I can find answers to any of YOUR questions about outsourcing various aspects of your online business building here in the Philippines. After all, I'm looking to outsource for some of the same reasons you are.

If there's any interest and questions - I'll keep this thread updated with what I discover.

Sincerely,

James B. Allen

BTW, it's freakin' HOT down here

Hey, I've been there once before when I was in high school.

Did you eat some "lechon" yet? I hope you're not vegetarian. I hope you get some time to go to the beach resorts in Mactan Island, where Magellan got killed while trying to circumnavigate the earth back in the early 1500s.

I believe that the print on demand publisher xlibris, and the domain hosting company 1and1 have their technical support centers there. This could mean that there is a core population of good writers/editors, as well as search engine marketing types of people there in Cebu.

LOL - I had some whole roasted pig when I was down here in April on Boracay Island. Good stuff.

Good point - although for my courses ane eBooks I do my own writing - that's the part of my business I enjoy - I'll certainly be checking in on the quality of writing available from the folks here too for future reference for article marketing etc...

Maybe you know or can find out the answer to something that's bugged me since forever.

If they can afford to work for a couple of dollars an hour, how do they afford the computer/internet connection in the first place?

    Hi James,

You should've told me you were coming to Cebu. I was there just last week. Would've wanted to a talk about outsourcing and IM in general and compare notes.

Im in Cagayan de Oro, its down south of where you are and I can reach you (or you can reach me) through an overnight ferry boat.

If I can help you (or anyone in WF for that matter) on getting your outsourcing questions answered, let me know. And no, im no Guru B/S.

Just someone in practice and is doing well.

Be sure to try out "Casa Verde" over at Ayala Mall (the terraces). Gotta love brian's ribs. LOL!

Hey James! I hope we hear something from you soon about your observations or notes regarding outsourcing in the Philippines. How much does it cost to outsource there?

    Hi James,

This is a great coincidence! Actually, I have a friend who owns and manages outsourcing company there in Cebu City called Live2Sell. He started from being a marketing consultant to being hired as trainer in several call centers around Manila so I know it's great if you could speak with him and meet him -- in person as well. I am so sure he could help you find a way for that. He'll catch you too!

If you have enough time, you could listen/watch about his story in one of my recent podcast interviews here with him and this guy's name is Chris Ducker:

I hope this helps and let me know of the updates as well. Also, when it comes to few more outsourcing tips, you could check me out as well. I love to help.

    Good luck!

      - Howdy Yan,

I'm here for a couple of weeks at least. I'll PM and try to cross path with you while I'm here - would certainly like to check out your operation and team.

Ayala Mall/Business Park is awesome - went there yesterday. Big contrast to other parts of the city, but obviously setting the bar higher - great to see! Missed Casa Verde - stopped at the UCC coffee shop though.

Also going to check out AsiaTown IT park tomorrow.

Tyrone, thank you very much for that information - I'll check out the link and look Chris up while I'm here.

    Ah, I'm sooooo jealous!
I want to go there and administrate a few projects with a team. I believe it would be a bit more effective if I can give instructions myself, and reply to questions immediately.

But still... It's a plan I have for later, when I have massive projects AND time for them
    Anyways, enjoy your stay!

So James probably one of my greatest needs is video demonstrations so would be interested if any of them do camtasia video work.

If you could find these it would also be a huge money spinner.

I have been watching some of the videos made in Philippines and some a great.

  • Hello James,

I am looking to hire a kick-ass coder full time but I'm having problems finding reliable people. Most of the guys I've hired work well the first few weeks and then they begin to slack around really bad. Have you found any PHP coders that you'd recommend?

    Thanks!
