Question about zombie blogs

For anyone who has had success with the "zombie" blog model - basically using PLR to create lots of small sites real fast - I was wondering, do you do any kind of keyword research at all?

I just stumbled across a ginormous pile of PLR on my HD that I can't even remember downloading, which would be good zombie fodder, but I took a quick glance through the articles and a whole lot of the topics look close to impossible to get any kind of SERP ranking with ... lots of really competitive keyword topics, etc.

I could rewrite the articles so they're hitting a maybe little less-competitive niche, or I could actually do some research and see if any of the topics in the bunch would be fairly low competition, but ... that kinda defeats the whole zombie idea, doesn't it? It would certainly make it a lot slower process. But if I use the PLR I have (which is pretty average, I think) I can't imagine the sites would even make it into the first 50 pages of a search.

I have the Zombie WSO, BTW, which is great. But I think I must be missing something. I guess what I'm really wondering is, how do zombie blogs get found at all?

Ok, with that out of the way, going based on using plr to blog here is what I would do.

PLR should always be rewritten. Especially when you have no idea how many versions of the same plr are floating around the web. Not just for duplicate content (myth or not, this is not where I'm going) but the content needs to be personalized some how. Rewriting it will bring is a fresh perspective.

Rewrite the content, and where possible use some LSI keywords.

If you are looking to invest in some things to help you rewrite, I recommend John Schwartz's rewriting course:

If you need some software to help you with that I recommend this:

    http://www.warriorforum.com/warrior-...-mac-os-x.html

And if you like to live really dangerously, have a look at this:

    http://www.warriorforum.com/warrior-...relegated.html

That will make the content "appear" unique to Google - but I can't guarantee the longevity of using this plugin as we never know what the G is doing - so really the rewriting will be the safest bet.

Keyword research is about deciding what your articles should be about before you waste time writing them. An hour on research can save you from several hours of writing for keywords that suck.

But I'm not writing the articles. The articles are already written. All keyword research is going to do for me is make it take longer to find articles about those keywords.

The blogs are found through organic search. And yes, most of them will have crap SEO - they'll only get a few hundred or even just a few dozen searches a month. But the aim here is to get a lot of stuff out there. Because think about it:

    - An hour finding keywords with (say) 2,000 searches a month
    - Two hours finding and writing articles about those keywords
    - Five minutes setting up the blog

In that same three hours, I can set up 15 zombies that get an average of 200 searches a month. That's 3,000 total searches. They might be crap keywords. They might have crap SEO. They might not even be on the radar for most marketers. But who cares? Same time - 50% more searches.

And what happens if you get interrupted after an hour and a half? If you were doing KW research and searching for articles, you got nothing. If you're throwing out zombies, you've got a half-dozen out there shambling around already.

The real value of the ZB method isn't performance, but speed and granularity. Because honestly, how many things have you started to do and then not done because you were interrupted?

Usually by scantily-clad, buxom lasses surfing the post-apocalyptic web, I think. :p

No...no keyword optimization for the zombie blogs. The system is not designed for it. It is just a simple throw-it-up quick PLR blog. The volume is the key. More zombies..more CHANCES of being seen. Zombies are kinda like the lottery. lol More like a pocket change hobby to pay for other things down the road. It can however be tweaked, but that really depends upon how much time you want to spend tweaking PLR zombies that you are not doing any other marketing for.

Like i said, I am looking to use the little bit of revenue to pay for other WSOs down the road.
