I have also looked for this but they are mostly paid services. Id use press releases mainly to drive traffic not for back linking. But I guess it couldn't hurt.

I would suggest you to use my favorite first-class press-release services:
    prweb, marketwire, businesswire and prnewswire.

They all allow to put arbitrary anchor texts for links inside the body.
They are paid ones, but the value is huge and incomparable with free press-releases.

Be careful with paid backlinks, being from press releases, articles or just directories. Google knows you paid for it and your rankings can be penalized for it.

PRlog allows one. Posterous allows as many as you want. Convert to PDF and upload to Docstoc and Scribd.

Docstoc do not allow any hyperlinks now I think.

As far as Scribd is concerned, be careful not to spam those sites. Be creative, provide useful content and post only 1-2 hyperlinks at the most and you will be safe from account deletion.

There are few free press release sites which allow hyperlinks. AS Harrison said, you can get the list of free PR from the Dan's WSO. You can still find extra sites by searching on Google. Use search terms like "list of free press release sites accepting hyperlinks" and you will get different lists which you can test for yourself.

I think Press Releases are good for traffic as i have been done it before but haven't added any link to it, but for generating traffic its a very good tool..
