Where's a Good Place to Recruit Affiliates in The Golf Niche?

Hello Everyone

This is the first thread I've started so hoping not to get stage fright

Over the last few years I have done the usual newbie route, spent a load of cash and even more time...finally after 18 months of struggling I have teamed up with a friend and created a golf product - called Drive For Show - 20-part coaching course (ebook, videos, worksheets etc etc)

so I was thinking 'If We build it - they will come" - turns out to not really be the case though.

I know this is an IM Forum, but hoping someone can steer me in the right direction to recruit some affiliates to promote the product.

Is it possible to advertise for affiliates as an ad...or does my product need to be IM related?

I now preparing for lots of hard work to follow up on all my hard work

Thanks for your help
cheers
Steve

Steve, there are lots of Warriors (and others) in the golf niche. Most, if not all, of them are usually on the lookout for a good product to add to their mix.

Look for golf-related blogs and websites that show ads (not necessarily Adsense, but actual ads) who might be willing to add you to the mix for a commission.

Look for sales page sites and squeeze pages in the niche that offer mailing lists or newsletters. Many times, the list owner will be open to exploring the possibilities if you approach them right.

Therein lies the rub. Most would-be affiliate recruiters are so heavy handed that they scare or annoy potential affiliates before they ever get off the tee.

Paul Myers has a great ebook on dealmaking. Can't find the link offhand, but maybe Paul's ears will burn and he'll pop in with it.

You could also do a lot worse than signing up for his newsletter at TalkBizNews.com. Highly recommended - I've been a subscriber for years, and that's saying a lot.

Steve have you tried searching Twitter for Golf enthusiasts in your area?
You might pick up some shop owners or club members.

Assuming you have signed up as a merchant at a network that handles affiliates..

Sign up as your own affiliate and create a website promoting your product as an affiliate. Get some leaflets made and drop them around local golf clubs and driving ranges, all promoting your affiliate site. Your goal is to increase affiliate sales and hence make your product seem like it is a worthwhile product for other affiliates to promote.

Do the usual online marketing stuff to get traffic to this affiliate site. As your affiliate sales grow, the attractiveness of your product to other affiliates will also grow (like Clickbank gravity for example), and this should hopefully result in more affiliates wanting to promote your product.

      Hi Coco

      Thanks for that...good idea!

I have also started to put put together a website dedicated to all the affiliates, so they can access, graphics, email copy, blog reviews, etc. The plan is to have all my affiliate resources in one place (for all my golf products)

..it's a work in progress but hopefully will be worth the effort...

you can see it at wgaffiliatesteam.com

...is this a good use of time? - be interested in your thoughts.

      Cheers

    Hi Chris
    I really appreciate your reply.

I have taken on board what you said about having a separate sales page, so I have ordered a mini-site and hopefully will have it all set in the next few days.

I do have the product listed on Clickbank, but instead of having a stand alone site I have the sales page installed on my blog, I will change it to be separate as soon as the mini site is completed. - I did this as I thought it would help with traffic to the site. - I didn't think about all the other links away from the blog - now that you mention it - it does seems obvious

Thanks for taking the time to give me some help.
    it's much appreciated
    Cheers

Hi Steve, I have recently set up a golf blog which I am hoping to use for affiliate sales. You can find it at golfswingpro[dot]net/ The site has only been up for a few days but has already received over 200 page views and has a bounce rate of 2.33%. I have 3 products that I am going to promote and have looked through your sales page just then. I would be very interested in promoting your product so send me an email at scott[at]golfswingpro[dot]net and we can talk.

However, your product is the most expensive on CB atm for the golf niche. This may be one of the reasons why affiliates have not come to you. Just a thought..

      Hit the Ball Straighter?

Hit The Ball Longer?Do It More Often?
      (from the sales page)

Sorry, Steve. This doesn't cut it. I still only want to have to hit the driver once per hole... :p

Seriously, though, it looks good to me. I went to take a quick look at what you changed and ended up reading pretty much the whole thing.

One thing that you may want to revisit - the opt-in box about halfway down. I don't see anything saying what the subscriber gets for their opt-in or why they should do it, other than "Free Coaching" on the submit button.

And if they can get free coaching for the price of an email address, why do they really need the product?

Last thing, you may want to consider having one page for affiliates (without the opt-in) and one for your own use (with the opt-in). Many affiliates will not promote offers that include opt-in boxes. There's a recent discussion on the matter here:

        Hi John
        Thanks for your advice
I have changed the optin box to give people free access to the first 12 videos....with a view that they would buy the course once they know how good it is.

Thanks for the tip about having the optin box on the first place...I have read the thread and made a post too.

        Thanks again
        Cheers
        Steve

PS - Where I play some of the holes are long enough to need to hit driver twice. If you'd like a copy I be happy to send you one. Thanks again

Search in article directories such as Ezine articles, and check people with golf squeeze pages, and then you can try contacting them for a JV or affiliate deal.
