Just checked out the new Nook at B&N...

Barnes & Noble just came out with their new ebook reader they are hoping will compete with Amazon's Kindle, so I headed over to my local B&N to take a look at it.

It's pretty nice, but a bit heavier than I expected. They added a small touchscreen color display at the bottom for navigation, and you can view your book covers. About the only thing it doesn't have is text to speech... you can even play Sudoku and Chess. They also let you access any title in the B&N catalog for free -- for an hour a day inside the store.

The price is pretty good too... $149 for the Wifi version and $199 for the 3GS/Wifi. Amazon responded by dropping the price on their older Kindle model to $189.

Has anyone else played around with it?

No ... I already have the Kindle and love it. They just did a firmware upgrade that has some cool new features plus dropped the price to compete with Nook price. Did a post about the update here:

And there's a link to the Amazon Update if your Kindle hasn't already updated.

Anyone bought the Nook yet? I imagine it's pretty similar to Kindle.

I've been eyeballing the Kindle for some time now and am actually glad to see some competition for it so that a mini price war can lower the price.

Both of my in-laws have a Kindle and they absolutely love it. We have a B&N nearby so I may have to drop in to test out their Nook in order to see how it compares.

    Respectfully,
    Tim

I bought a Nook with some wedding money a few months back, and after a few weeks I sold it to my dad for my little sister. Not a big fan

The touch screen, at least on the one I had, wasn't very responsive...tried the Kindle out and found it to be much more intuitive, so when I buy another eBook reader, it will be that one.
