where do you back up your sites?

My sites are all WordPress and they back themselves up automatically using the incredible WP-DBManager backup plugin, which can send a backup to your Inbox at whatever intervals you want. I choose weekly. It also creates backups on the host, which is not of course what you were asking about.

Try to use a cron job with rsync in your linux server. This is a good way to take backup.

Hi,

I use wp db to have it backup my db everyday and email it to me.

Every 2-3 days I do a complete backup of all my sites using the "backup wizard" in cPanel.

Are you using cpanel ? If so, you will find an excellent backup solution there. You can configure where to ftp it to and when.

Other than that, a cron job ftping things down is best. Dont forget your databases too.

When it's launched in a couple months I'm changing over to SitePlanB.com (not affiliated with them). I've just heard a lot of buzz about their systems and it's supposedly going to be really inexpensive.

I use Dreamweaver for straight html/css sites so I always have a copy of the site on my machine.

For WP sites there's a DB Backup plugin that will send backups to an e-mail address.

For backups of work product I've been using Mozy but will be switching to Jungle Disk.

  For WP sites, I use the backup plugin, then copy the backup to a portable hard drive so I always have two backups. I also periodically download everything to a folder on my drive, zip it up and add it to the portable.
  
  That portable is kept with the other "if the house catches fire and I gotta run" stuff...

is there an online solution for this? like a service?

for my computer hard drive, i use mozy...

but i was wondering if there is a recommended service that back ups
websites...all of it...i know of the cpanel backup wizard but i heard that's not everything and i dont really get that option...

anyone know? i am definitely going to check out siteplanb...thanks!

To do this, I go to my website's cPanel and go through the Backup directory. It's easier and safer down there. You could also take a look at this tutorial since I do this as well:

Alternatively, I also use an online storage called ADrive. You can see it here:

For websites I use rsync.net - Secure Offsite Backups, Offsite Data Storage and Remote Encrypted Filesystems, Offsite Backup and some custom scripts. This does incremental backups to the rsync.net remote server account and is automated with cron on each site. The scripts are set to keep rotated, aged copies of everything.

A client recently mentioned Backup Smart cPanel Website Backup Software | Backup Smart. This will provide automated cPanel backups. The client said they were happy with it and it was relatively easy to set up.

Rackspace Cloud Files is an alternative to Amazon S3. Cloud Files - Unlimited Online Storage & Data Storage Services. Jungle Disk now supports Rackspace Cloud Files Jungle Disk 2.6 Released – Now with Cloud Files support! Jungle Disk Blog.

For my home computers I use SpiderOak.com http://lnkto.com/spideroak (aff.). There is a 2GB free account. One account services multiple computers and external drives.
