Poh Man's Advertising

Anyone ever tried this form of advertising? Can't beat the CPM.

The link is blurred out so as not to make this a blatant plug. Hmm, wonder how many impressions I will get. :p

Excellent! Now photocopy it and stick one under the wipers of every car in the street...

I live in Silicon Valley where traffic is terrible. Hopefully that will mean more eyes on it. I'm going to make a more professional one though with bigger type. Will update with results.

Check with your car insurance company before doing something like this. If you're using your car to promote a business, you may need your car covered as a commercial vehicle rather than just personal.

I hope it works. How are results tracked? I assume that is the only place you use that particular domain.

The problem I personally have with domain advertising on bill boards, cars, signs, etc. is that I can't remember the domain when I get home. Even if I repeat it many times and have it down cold, I seem to hit the door and get involved in something else, thus forgetting to go to the site.

If I do remember to go to the site my mind messes up the domain. TrueGreenLawn.com will become RealGreenLawn.com or TrueGreenYard.com real fast.

Often I wonder how many see those domains, fully intend to visit, but get lost along the way.

Subscribing to this thread, good luck!

And I'm sure no one would care if you posted an image of it not blurred. Do you own the short URL ... or are you using a redirect?

Curious... why would you use such a small font size when you have all that empty space on the page? If I'm in a lane next to you, I have to look through my passenger window for a distance of about 10 feet. Can I read that font? Probably not, especially the URL. Crank that sucker up! And let us know how it works... put them on all four windows!

You are right of course, but I am so tired of insurance companies telling me what to do.

The FAA requires a flight review every two years. It fills all the legal requirements for flight. If however I want to rent a plane and haven't flown one in 90 days, I am required (by the insurance company) to go up with an instructor.

I wanted a simple in office procedure which took 5 minutes, but the doctor couldn't do it in the same visit because he wouldn't get paid. Because of insurance rules he made me come back another day.

When I changed insurance companies for my home, the new one required downspouts in place before covering the home. Never mind that it was that way since built about 14 years ago and was fine. I bought some stupid plastic things and they were happy.

In this case, it really does help you though.

You get in a minor fender bender with someone, and the other guy may be happy with his car repair bill being covered.

You get in a minor fender bender with someone who thinks you're a business owner, well, you must be loaded and suddenly they have a neck brace, pain and suffering, etc.

I see these type of signs all the time where I live. People post them up on stop signs at major intersections. "Want to Work From Home? Go to..."

Although not very legal it is a smart idea. They are hitting people sitting in traffic on the way to work. Could you get a more targeted audience for an offer like that?!

@abednego, the url is FreebieFans.com and it's my own site

@Rob Thayer, yup, I'm going to crank up the font size that's for sure

@Dan C. Rinnert, thanks for the tip, hadn't thought of that

@Scott Ames, do you think my domain is memorable enough? I've only just started the site so it'll be evident if the signs work at all. Once I do some online ads I'll definitely have to figure something out there on tracking.

@WillR - I was thinking of just putting the sign on a car sunshield and parking it in front of Best Buy. My version of site targeting, lol.

I have never tried to do any offline advertising this way, but I've often thought about creating a huge sign with a link to a CPA offer of some sort, taping a stick onto it, and then hiring some kid to stand on a busy intersection or freeway off-ramp at rush hour. Seems like the "human signposts" are everywhere in my area these days... and I don't think you can get in trouble like you would if you posted signs all over. Check your local laws, of course.

Its such a small drop in the bucket type setting. Its cute but all the time in the car vs. one good written article submitted with hopes of page one results. I cannot picture everyone spending time for 10 drivers who are on their cells, eating, talking, driving, texting, upset, putting on makeup, arguing, rushing, late, remembering one sign in a car by the time they get where they are going.
