Someone has hacked into my hotmail and is send emails....

Hey Warrios,

I'm not sure if this is happening to any of you but someone has hacked into my 2 hotmail accounts and is sending emails to all of my hotmail contacts.

I'm not sure what to do here. I sure is making me look bad since all that is in the email is a link.

Any ideas of what I can do? I have had both of these accounts for more than 6 years and I would hate to have to shut them down

    This happened with my Yahoo account recently, and things were pretty good for the 7 or so years that I've had it since high school. It was a serious pain in the a$$ because, well, it would strip off all my email contacts in my address book, and send them all emails, in mass, over several emails.

    Unfortunately, there wasn't really much I could do....I did try to be proactive, and email all my contacts explaining what had happened....funny thing, though, for a project I did awhile ago, I had alot of government political figures' email addresses in there, and those emails were sent off to them as well....

    Eventually it just ran it's course, with little damage. It is a serious pain though.

        yeah thats kinda what I was thinking too, and make sure to keep your passwords a rather tricky combo of letters/numbers/symbols

          It could be a trojan on your computer, spread to other computers by clicking on that link.

    Are you sure they've "hacked" into them? It is easy to 'spoof' the sender address, and for some reason they may have just decided to use your e-mail account.

    I.e., you just change the "from: ..." to your address, and it appears (on the surface) to be coming from a different e-mail account. Check the e-mail headers.

      I'm not sure if they have "hacked" into them or not but they are sending emails to my entire hotmail list. I'm not sure how they could do this unless they got into my account.

        I've been RECEIVING these type of emails from yahoo and hotmail accounts for months, and all that's in them is one link. They come from
        customers of mine or people that have written in with questions. One person found out she had a virus, and that was how it was sending out
        these emails. Whatever is causing it, it's happening on a large scale, and
        I'm receiving loads of them a day, and I'm sure the owners of these accounts have no idea it's happening.

        Update: I just did a bit of research on this, and it seems it's a virus on your PC.

    I had something similar to what happened to Michele. First and foremost, email your contacts and apologize for the inconvenience, say that somehow security was breached and you are working to resolve the matter. If it WAS a trojan you NEED to stop going online and clean your PC immediately. Do not open any of your important files or your contact lists until you know for sure that you have removed all Viruses and Spyware from your computer. If you do not do this immediately it could turn into a more severe situation where these malign things can get into your server and sites and completely back you up (I speak from experience) so act NOW.

    About 10 years ago I was using my hotmail account when I suddenly saw someone hacking it right in front of my eyes.

    Needless to say, I stopped using hotmail.
