Hey all!

I have a friend who does alot of IM bits and peices and after watching him make some nice cash I decided I would try and get in on it!

I have recently scaled back my job to accomodate my personal business which only requires me to work 2/3 days a week for a limited time so I thought what perfect time to have a go at making some money (or hopefully a living eventually) from internet marketing.

My friend has offered to coach me on various things but I am wondering if you guys have any tips on; where to, or the best ways to start ?

Many thanks!

Jake

      Hey Jake:

Congratulations on starting your IM business.

There are some exceptional opportunities available with IM - but I personally believe it's best to get thhe necessary education and skillset first.

As others have suggested, this Forum is an excellent starting point. As well, there are a great number of IM eBooks / eCourses, etc.

Here are a couple of other very good resources to consider - - -

(1)- Get the Free eBook - "7 Steps to Creating Wealth Online" - it's by Kathe Lucas and Denise Hall, who post here at this Forum. You can get it at their site, TheMainGate.com.

(2)- Another of their eBooks - "Internet Marketing How-To" is excellent too. You can find it at their site - WackyWednesdaySale.com (click the dropdown menu, and scroll down. It's less than $5.00 and it's loaded with high value information.

Just so you know, I am not an Affiliate for these things! :-)

Hope this is helpful - and good luck with your new venture!

      Sincerely / Peter A.

Your first step is going to be to figure out what you want to do.

        1. What niche do you want to go after? (i.e. knitting, sports, weight loss, etc.)

2A. Do you want to sell/promote info-products, or do you want to create killer websites and make money from ad/affiliate revenues, membership fees, etc.?

2B. Do you want to create your own products or become an affiliate for other people's products? (This means either you create your own products to sell or you drive traffic to other people's sales pages for their products and receive a commission %, or cut, from any sales that result.)

        3. How are you going to promote whatever it is that you choose to promote, whether it's your own product/site or someone else's? (Are you going to focus on SEO, PPC advertising, viral marketing, article marketing, etc?)

Advice: Some people might advise that you go after some obscure niche that doesn't have much competition, but I say go after a niche that 1. you're passionate about (this will keep you interested in it, especially at first when you're not making much money yet), and 2. people are spending money in (there is no such thing as a saturated, or over-crowded, niche IMHO.. there's enough money to go around for all of us). Follow the money and follow your passion... you'll have a much better time.

Basically, figure out what you want to do and then figure out how you're going to do it and then do it.

Tip: When you get an idea, write it down. This is key. I can't even tell you how many great ideas I've had that have died untimely deaths because I didn't write them down. Write everything down, even if it's a small, minute detail.

    Hey Jake!

Dont get stuck into thinking theres only one way to make money or to get traffic etc. Possibilities are unless and I bet theres ways which you didnt even know about. Domain flipping, adsense, ppv, ppc, bum marketing, seo, parking cpa.

Get to grips with basics for such as all the terminology used in IM and basic concepts. I cant think of any right now but im sure some Warrirors can think of some books for newbies explaining all you need to know such as what everything is and means

    Good Luck

      Hello all!

Thanks for the great replies, I have been reading alot of posts on the forum today and like a few of you said there are so many ways to do this its mind boggling!

I'd like to find a scheme in which I can make say 100$ of which I can then invest into further things, content buying or whatever I have decided to do at the time..Any suggestions?

Matt - Yes I'm drowning in IM jargon but slowly getting there, eBook reccomendations would be cool.

      Regards

If you search around for more than an hour or two you will be overwhelmed by all of the possibilities. This can be paralyzing so try to find one thing you like and focus on that one thing. It's also necessary to start by learning and developing your basic skills in writing, salesmanship and marketing.

I've written an ebook that explains several different ways to get started online. It helps take a lot of the confusion out of making your first choices on what you should do first. It's free in my sig file below.

Congratulations on taking the entrepreneur route instead of the 40 year plan and broke road! The first thing I'd recommend is defining who your target audience is.

Who is it that will want what your promoting. The next thing you want to do is determine what you have more of, time or money. This will be a big determining factor on how you promote and advertise what it is your selling.

So if you are strapped for cash for example, you might look at press releases 24-7 press release is a good one, social sites like myspace youtube, classifieds, such as craigslist backpage.com and the like. Also on classified sites run them through alexa. to see how much traffic they receive.

This should give you a good start as well as reading through the forums and threads here.
