I say If you're just getting started, it's best to cut right to the chase and discover how to get a hold of a fast selling affiliate product. After you get grounded in the basics such as... - Getting a fast selling product... - Slapping up some type of landing page for at least some warmup/preselling... - Getting folks to that landing page ( traffic generation ) - Getting enough of those folks to go on and purchase the affiliate product. Then you can build a site/blog etc. and invade a niche for the long term. What do you think? All the best! TL |

Way back when I was trying to make money only as an affiliate, I found the product first because I was looking for high-quality products that I felt good promoting. However, I quickly learned there is far more money to be made with my own products and that making high quality info products of my own is a piece of cake. So I then switched to hunting down the niche and creating a product for it.

After you are through with the basics, its a nice strategy to build a blog for long term profits. Some additional steps can also be added such as --Utilizing social bookmarks for generating additional traffic. --Posting on relevant forums for additional traffic. --Utilizing social networks for lead generation/direct promotion etc. All this can be added to the mix for even greater profits. When I was starting, this niches and product selection is by far unknown to me. What I did is I created a software that copies all the products of clickbank to my site and gives several visitors on it then when there's a sale, I gave time to discover the product why someone bought it. So I think product first then if there are several sales on product's niche then I focus on the niches that gave sales. I can't select a good product of any niches before without a sale.

It depends on how you want to model your business. If you're going to build a business with your own products, you need to develop a product line in one niche -- so you must choose your niche first. If you're setting up a number of affiliate product promotions for individual income streams, you can set up in a number of niches -- so you choose your products. |

One reason why I love Clickbank. The product owners who are in the top 10 of each category have done a great deal of market research and testing to put a product out there that will do well. All I do, is to start the product creation process as an affiliate for one of the top 10 products in a category. If I reach the stage where the affilaite campaign is profitable, I start to scale. Once it's running on full throttle, I will ceate my own product and sales funnel and just plug it into the affiliate system to give myself an instant pay increase :-) AffiliatePPC |

Stick to the basics... Do a market research first. I do one with the APPLE method. If you want to know more about it, send me a PM and I will give you a Market Research video free of cost. Note: Product analysis is involved in the market research so its not a chicken and an egg... Its an icecream and a cone scenario. Product analysis and niche research walk hand in hand with each other. -Lakshay |

Yes lakshaybehl, finding a fast selling product does involve niche research but newbies should really get off the snide and find a fast selling affiliate product in any big niche and quickly get into the habit of also... - Slapping up some type of landing page for at least some warmup/preselling... ( like a simple blogger.com blog ) - Getting folks to that landing page ( traffic generation ) - Getting enough of those folks to go on and purchase the affiliate product. Important: Once a person does the above they are liberated from newbie fear and apprehension and are sure they can perform the basic operations of profitable online business. "Doing something" actually does something to a person big time! Then they can get into more serious market research, take over a niche, the super optimized sales funnel etc., perhaps create a product for the niche or not. The chicken or egg analogy was simply to generate constructive debate - ( as a goal of getting newbies to get off the snide ) ...not as a matter of fact cause niches and products do go hand in hand. TL Ps. PM lakshaybehl for a free video on niche research. Ps. Anyone with a free video on finding fast selling products at clickbank? |

I don't know, taking a look at products as an affiliate often helps me discover new markets. We've all seen stuff and said, "who in the world would buy THAT." ![]() I'd echo: affiliate and testing only: products first then define people your own products: people's needs/desires first then products |

Doing something is good - but doing it wrong it can disillusion a new marketer before they really get started. Learning the best way to approach promoting products IS doing something - and the best first step. Niche first - and then products for that niche. Why? Because you need to ascertain whether there are buyers - whether it's a niche you can be comfortable working in and whether you have the ability to compete in that niche. Jumping in to promote a best selling product is a mistake many newbies make - they choose a product they see discussed elsewhere and end up trying to promote a "make money" product such as an ebook they've not read or a software they've not used. For the best results, know your niche and what market you are targeting, know your product(s) and competition, and develop a process to use (site/blog/traffic) to sell the product. kay |
