What do you recommend for article directories?

Hello,

I was wondering what the top 10 or 15 article directories are as I understand that beyond these directories are more or less useless.

I have been submitting my articles to the following sites:

1) Ezine
2) GoArticles
3) ArticleBase (no follow- is this useless then if it is no follow?)
4) Amazines (does not seem to allow for any links which is useless- am I doing this wrong or does it simply not allow links?)
5) Selfgrowth.com
6) isnares.com
7) IdeaMarketers.com

Your feedback and input is greatly appreciated!

ArticleBase (no follow- is this useless then if it is no follow?)

Not exactly - it still drives traffic. I've gotten more sales from ArticleBase than Ezine, actually.

I also use EasyArticles, even though it's not the #1 best, as well as ArticlesFactory.

        1. Ezine Articles
        2. Amazines
        3. Article Feeder
        4. Idea Marketers
        5. GoArticles

        7. Articles Base
        8. Article Directory
        9. Article Cube
        10. Article City
Thanks this list is great. How do you manage to get links in Amazines? I don't think there is a resource box (I may be wrong) and I don't think you are allowed to put links in the body.

Actually this is not correct. I have a Firefox addon with which you can go to any site, click the button and it will highlight all no follows. All mine and all the other articles I checked on ArticleBase are definately nofollow. Trust me, I wish that was not the case.

Check out the link that cswjohni posted above which shows which directories are nofollow and dofollow.

Good strong list here....only two additions I would include are Buzzle (yes, it's a pain to get registered with but the articles rank well) and Info Barrel.

I'm starting to see Info Barrel articles climb in the search engines and they revenue share which is a nice plus.

I really haven't used Buzzle....and, you know my opinion on the other

I'll still have to check out Buzzle though, but just 'cause you recommended it Tim It never hurts to diversify platform usage in an overall online strategy....thanks!

    4) Amazines (does not seem to allow for any links which is useless- am I doing this wrong or does it simply not allow links?)
You need to put links in the article body itself. Use the links in the last paragrapg. Links are doffolow.

Anyway I haven't seen anybody talking about Buzzle.com. Article from Buzzle ranks very well in search egnine.

Thanks I will try that. The problem with Buzzle is that they want an application with previous proof of articles. Just seems a bit of a hassle to get an account. But maybe the rankings/links it can give are very good as you say.

My question now is WHY do you all use the article directories you are recommending? I'm not trying to be a jerk...but, do you use them because that what other people use?....

No site is perfect, however, some are flat-out better than others, and based on some of the recommendations here, I'm REALLY trying to figure out what criteria people are using to make these recommendations.....

      Helium was mentioned yet....

Writer Beware Blogs!: Victoria Strauss -- Helium

      (Yes, I know, from 2007)

      Helium.com Complaints - Online fraud
My3cents.com - Helium.com Complaint - Scam Writing Website, Writing jobs

      I could keep go...

My problem with this thread is....HOW much research have you all done when it comes to places where you are recommending other Warriors to invest, potentially a significant amount of time, to submit content to?

Please, I encourage others here to research these companies (they aren't just "websites", they are companies), explore their TOS, gauge user sentiment, even go so far as speak to management....)

Just be sure to keep track of how you're doing in all of these directories, because everyone is different. You might get lots of results from one site; another, not so much.

When I started article marketing, I submitted content to about 10-12 different directories. A couple just didn't give me the results I was looking for. Others took too long to approve my stuff (definitely not waiting 4 weeks! ) Others didn't let me have a user profile (which gives you another backlink, separate from your articles) or check my article stats, which I didn't like. I've since narrowed down that original 10-12 to 6-7 that I submit to regularly - and I'm always on the lookout for new ones!

Bottom line - it's all about personal preference.

Personally, I don't care if a site takes 4 weeks to approve a bunch of my articles. I've actually had this happen when I was out of town for a few days and when I came back home I saw that sales went through the roof. I checked my email account and saw that a directory had approved a bunch of my articles while I was away Works for me!

Something else that goes hand in hand with that is fully understanding everything about the directories that you submit your articles to as part of your article marketing campaigns.

Many folks use EZA as one of their main article directories but very few ever read their blog (full of tons of useful info) or visit their forum. And even fewer ever actually read the TOS for EZA.

You have to know your platform If you truly want to harness the power of the directories you submit your articles too.

Heck, Howie and his buddy wrote a frickin tome on Info Barrel just so folks could learn how to really take advantage of that new directory. The same thing could be done for EZA, Buzzle and a few other top article directories.

          Respectfully,

I know I have to tred cautiously here, Tim, so I'll divert this thread just a tad....

Has anyone written a course/product for a site like EZA or Buzzle? Honestly, with all these online directories/websites sucking in traffic and membership like crazy....many gain upwards of hundreds of new members a week....that is essentially a pre-manufactured grouping of people that all share a common purpose, have a commone interest and goal (to gain traffic and make money), and can be directly marketed to....

If someone HASN'T created a product for EZA, I can't help but wonder why....

"You have to know your platform If you truly want to harness the power of the directories you submit your articles too."

This is exactly correct, Tim, and I'm GLAD you brought it up. So often, people join websites, yet have very little idea of how it works, what it offers, or how it treats content. When we are talking about what could mount to a fairly significant investment of time and energy, my hope is that a take away lesson (for everyone) would be to REALLY dissect the platform and it's TOS, and, if possible, even talk directly to the ownership....

"Many folks use EZA as one of their main article direcotories but very few ever read their blog (full of tons of useful info) or visit their forum. And even fewer ever actually read the TOS for EZA."

            This is truly unfortunate.
