Hi guy I'm trying to work out what to do about press releases. Everyone says to do them but i'm not sure how to go about writing one. My site is an info site so are they even relevant?

I have never had much traffic from press releases. It may be that every marketer on the internet is throwing all they can write at the press release agencies. You won't miss much by ignoring these press release agencies.

Ya, every so-called Internet marketers like to cite press release as a traffic source. Do PR this, do PR that.

    However, they've been vague!

They're not specific on the research that goes into making it news worthy, finding the appropriate media outlets, keywords research, the type of niche appropriate for a PR, and more.

I don't think you would miss much either. Focus on what's more important to promote your site! Good luck.

  • I am quite surprised. I would have expected at least 1/3 of you to have something positive to say about PRs.

  • i agree with the others. PR's aren't a priority. But they can work if you have a good story and they are more likely to be useful for a major product launch. If you do want to test one, a press release should go like this:
    Format of a Press Release:
    FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
CONTACT: Contact Person Company Name Telephone Number Fax Number E-mail Address Web site address
    Headline
City, State, Date — Opening Paragraph (should contain: who, what, when, where, why):
Remainder of body text - Should include any relevant information to your products or services. Include benefits, why your product or service is unique. Also include quotes from staff members, industry experts or satisfied customers.
If there is more than 1 page use:
    -more-
(The top of the next page):
    Abbreviated headline (page 2)
    Remainder of text.
(Restate contact information after your last paragraph):
For additional information or a sample copy, contact: (all contact information)
Summarize product or service specifications one last time
Company History (try to do this in one short paragraph)
    # # #
    (indicates Press Release is finished)
