Is Auto Blogging legal?

Hello my fellow warriors,

I was just wondering if auto blogging is legal. I'm not quite sure how it works, but it seems to take information from other sites to post on your blog. Please forgive me of my ignorance on this subject, but I just learned about this method recently. I just wouldn't want to apply it and get in any legal trouble for copyright infringement.

What are the overall opinions on auto blogging? If it is indeed legal, I would like the opinions of some of the veteran marketers here on the board.

Thank you for your time,

People use autoblogs in many different ways and formats.

Unfortunately there are a LOT of people who create autoblogs that ARE illegal.

To do it right, you need to auto-post material that you have the rights to publish.

This can be from article directories or blog network directories, but you need to abide by the rule and not edit or remove any of the outbound links. The source can also be your own supply of PLR articles that are set to auto-publish over time.

There are too many variables to be listed here about autoblogging, but the #1 rule is don't steal content without permission.

There are so many feeds that allow distribution of their content. If you take from them (article directories for example), then you will be fine. Unfortunately, there are many who don't do this and risk having their blogs taken down.

There are a lot of lazy people with good incomes who are happy to pay a lot of dosh for site-scraping software and don't bother checking up on permission or even giving attribution.

In my view those people and that sort of software are beneath the pale and definitely illegal.

Black hat? You bet. Coal-black and pitch-black.

VegasGreg sums it up very well.

Here's a couple ways autoblogging and autoblogging software are non offensive.
    • Reselling products: Amazon.com, Amazon.de, Clickbank, Overstock, and any other store that wants you to help sell their products.
    • Youtube videos for readers, or adding other different types of embeddible web 2.0 material to a blog.
    • Yahoo Answer questions, + comments
    • PLR Articles (although most of those are not ver good imo).
    • Scraping forums for post+comment combos for your readers
    • Having a blog auto post items you share from your google reader (link crediting too)
    • Using autobloggers to distribute your OWN content to your other blog channels.
    • Using un published databases for content.
    • Scraping local classifieds and listings from random places to form a mashup of local content
    • Creating niche mashups of your favorite niche related blogs to form your own niche related blog.

Things become black hat when you disregard credit, because then risk being impolite and offending people. And not everyone is offended... Propper behavior always becomes contextual and up to the individual.
