Buying Expired Domains

I have a couple of questions around buying expiring domains with existing page rank, google links, etc.

is there a free or at least lower cost alternatives to freshdrop.net?

Once I find a domain that fits my criteria how do I get the domain name, meaning:
- How do I find them quick enough
- It seems most have not yet cleared and are available to the public.

    You can go to godaddy and look at the $5.00 dollar auctions,ect.
    You still have to pay the yearly register fee plus the auction price.
    I bought one a while ago and am going to setup a site.
    Has age and backlinks on it.

    tdnam.com buy something with tons of hits already, and use a cpa gateway or cpa redirect script on the new domain already getting free traffic
