What separates the Multi-Millionaire Internet Marketer from the Struggling Newbie?

I believe the most important thing that separates the rich internet marketers from the newbies is the LIST.

I don't know a single successful multi-millionaire internet marketer that does not have a huge subscriber email list. In fact, research all the top name internet marketers and you'll probably find that the first thing you'll see on their website is the opt-in page to their email list.

Most newbies try to get a start in internet marketing by trying "hit or miss" techniques to get their first sale. This strategy never works in the long term because you have to constantly worry about getting more traffic to get more sales.

You end up spending more time writing articles or building backlinks when you should be spending the time building your customer base through your list.

If you don't keep track of the people that buy from you, you will lose them forever.

The only way you will succeed in making a steady long term income is through repeat business. Think of it like running a restaurant business. If it only had customers that came in once and never returned, it would shut down in no time.

You probably must have heard that a majority of the internet marketers fail to make any income online or complain about not having consistent sales. This is probably because they are constantly worrying about counting the number of views their articles get while their successful counterparts are busy counting the number of subscribers on their list.

Experienced marketers will tell you, it is much easier to get existing customers to buy from you again than it is to get a new buyer. It is true that the money is in the list because the real money is in the Backend sales! This is how the top internet marketers make their fortunes.

Regardless of all the latest marketing strategies, the one that makes the most money in the shortest amount of time is Email Marketing. Building a relationship with your existing subscribers through frequent emails will prove to be far more profitable than any other internet marketing strategy.

Think about it, you probably must have heard of the latest IM strategy from an email that you received from one of these top internet marketers that you subscribed to!

The big time internet marketers don't rely on search engines for their traffic. Their list is their traffic which is why they control their income and that is why they are where they are! They refer to their lists as their own personal "ATM" machines.

If you want to join the ranks of these top internet marketers and not worry about sales anymore, then start building your opt-in page regardless of which niche you're in!

There are a few other variables that set the big players apart from the newbie but on the whole, having a list is a big factor.

Good start Sam, and I wish you all the best with your IM journey.

Yes, a list is important but I don't think it's what sets apart the millionaires from the non-millionaires.

I won't really go into it because it's a big topic, but I think it's more to do with mindset and behavioural habits.

Also, it depends on your business model.

There are plenty of online millionaires that don't have an email list. Their business model doesn't require it.

The reason all the "gurus" preach about the list is because that's how they make their money and they are the "gurus" that you choose to listen to. You're just not taking advice from someone who's making money without a list.

Anyway, yes I think having a list is important, but hopefully these points are food for thought.

Also, there was a recent post here about email eventually becoming redundant due to the likes of Facebook.

While that won't happen any time soon, it certainly would reduce effectiveness of email marketing, right?

If email went away, does that mean all the online millionaires would have no income?

I think the key take away is, yes, having a list important, but you need to be pursuing as many marketing methods as possible... never put your eggs in one basket.

How many internet millionaires do you know that are not trying to sell you a product on how to become an internet millionaire?

The majority of companies, online or offline keep a database of customers and enquiries, its just good business practice, but I do not think it is the defining factor in every business model, although it most certainly boosts profit and allows you to generate cash on the backend.

Several business models like price comparison sites etc.. are not so reliant on lists (although they do use them of course). Online business should be treated just like any other business, and keeping in contact with prospects and customers makes sense, along with good marketing and testing, a good product and good customer service.

Truth is most internet millionaires live in obscurity, quite happily turning over big heaps of money, while the ones people know about are usually trying to teach us to become rich, for a fee of course.

Nothing as specific as a list. It really comes down to two things..

      Hard work and focus.

Some of my favorite quotes come from Thomas Edison and he covers both of these subjects very well.

      Hard work.

Genius is one percent inspiration and ninety-nine percent perspiration.

I have not failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work.

Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work.

      Focus

Being busy does not always mean real work. The object of all work is production or accomplishment and to either of these ends there must be forethought, system, planning, intelligence, and honest purpose, as well as perspiration. Seeming to do is not doing.

Anything that won't sell, I don't want to invent. Its sale is proof of utility, and utility is success.

      Thomas A. Edison

I think a lot of people are missing one or the other of these. For myself making sure I am focused is something I have to watch out for. Making sure that the effort that I put out actually sends me where I want to go. That the my effort actually results in work and is not just wasted energy.

List one thing but I think being part of a master mind group is what separates them.

I don't think you need a list to make millions, but I'm not going to take that chance. I'm building a list - it's a no brainer.

It's remarkably easy to do, I created my first list of 200 almost by accident. When I couldn't sell to the list I gave up thinking list building didn't work (this was before I found Warrior Forum). But now I am going back to the list. I buy from lists (not always IM!!) and I believe I can sell to people on lists.

People on lists will buy from you, give you free market research, visit your pages, watch your webinars etc. etc.

Millionaires who don't have an email list probably have an equivalent resource: Perhaps they have a prospect list with telephone numbers who they contact and have a good relationship with. Or they partner closely with businesses that have a list. Or they run a forum with a strong following - which is virtually a list. Or a blog with strong RSS / Twitter following. Or a snail-mail list. Etc. Etc.

Si... there are two routes in IM

the long term and the short term route

the short term route - direct link/ presell or review... gets the instant sale. tells your campaign is working and stuff.

the long term route - building an email list and selling them stuff... i am not that good at the instant sale though. are u? many people have managed to get that instant sale though from their subsribers... the thing is this is a long process and you need to learn a lot from it...
