I know this is a pretty basic question but I have a weebly site and I would like to get my own domain. I know I can get my domain from go daddy or name cheap but how does this process actually work with hosting? I buy the domain and then what happens? I would like to do this so I am in control of the website. Just want to know how this process works.

You need to buy the domain name and also purchase hosting. You can get hosting from a place like hostgator, bluehost, 1 and 1, etc...

    Step 1. Buy the domain
    Step 2. Buy the hosting
Step 3. Point the domain to your hosts' Name Servers
Step 4. Login to your cpanel account for your hosting account and setup your domain
Step 5. Upload your website files to \www or whatever the root directory is

Those are very basic steps. Hope that helps you a bit brotha.

Step 3. Point the domain to your hosts' Name Servers
To do the above - you will be pointing he DNS (domain name server) to your hosting. This will be two lines of text your new host provides to you.

Most hosting companies have instructions or videos showing you how to do this.

Dear April: I don't want any trouble from you.
January was long, February was iffy, March was a freaking dumpster fire.
So sit down, be quiet, and don't touch anything.

if you still unsure about what are you going to do at step 5, better you call over a professional.

I used to have a free Weebly website. When you click 'Edit Site,' there should be an option to 'Choose website address.' Option A is to use a subdomain of weebly.com, Option B is to register a new domain, and Option C is to use a domain you already own.

If you want to get a domain, I DO NOT recommend registering the new domain with the company associated with Weebly (Option B). I did this and eventually switched to BlueHost (domain & hosting). Had a hell of a time trying to transfer things over.
