How Would You Structure This Kind Of Authority Site?

If you were building an Authority Site (say 200-300 pages) designed to primarily sell a "single info product"...

...would you make the Home page basically a sales page with a bunch of other article pages less prominent?

Or would you make the Home page a more organized guide to the article pages, with the "single info product" less prominent?

Interesting question as I'm just testing this myself. My authority site used to have a normal "magazine" style homepage and the info product was promoted in post footers and the sidebar.

Now that the individual pages are ranking in the SERPS I have turned the homepage into the first page of my sales funnel to lead people through to the info product that meets their needs.

I think most people who are looking for article content will find it through the SERPS so why not make your homepage a sales page?

Give it a try and see what works in your niche.

That's my logic, too, but sometimes my logic is flawed by premises that I'm not aware are incorrect

      Thanks!

I think you rather need to be looking at how often is your home page is actually being viewed, and where are those views referred from.

If your homepage is getting traffic from the search engines for a keyword targeted to the product you're trying to sell, then yes have your home page be a sales page.

If your homepage is getting traffic mostly from internal site links, then you need to evaluate why people are clicking a link to your home page. Most likely I think they would want to see more content...just a guess.

Or simply just test both methods yourself and track whatever metrics you feel are important (length of time on page, where they are clicking, whether sales or leads or hops or whatever are made, opt-ins, etc)
