Perception is reality is Marketing 101. But sometimes great marketers cut to the chase and create their own reality. Often in radical fashion. Would you'se people pay a $1000 for a pizza? Would you have guts to even charge that price? Say hello to Nino Selimaj...owner of Nino's Bellissima in Manhattan, NY. Here's a marketing legend after my own heart....who decided that the perception of the $20 dollar pizza was old news...and he decided to change the reality and now offers a custom pizza you must order 24 hours in advance. Price? A cool one thousand American dollars. And I suspect several million dollars in publicity and counting. Rather brilliant. Rather simple, too. I've been preaching higher prices for my entire Warrior career...and if a guy can get $1K for a pizza...you'se Warriors selling information products need to step back and reevaluate why you seem unwilling to raise the price of your stuff. That's goes for others selling anything. Change the reality....by jacking the price...and you might be suprised that the perception chagnes along with it. I wouldn't pay anything above $10 for a pizza, unless it's stuffed crust, which I can't even eat, because I'm gluten intolerant. But awesome idea. Thanks for the post/vid!

that is brilliant marketing...even if he never sells one damn $1000 pizza, the exposure he got from the news stories is worth a fortune.

On a travel show I heard of a cafe I think was in Nepal. They sold coffee to the climbers. They has a regular cup for about 5-10 dollars. They also sold the same cup described in the menu as an existential cup of coffee. They raised the price by describing it differently. Also, if any of you have ever seen Marshal Silver, you probably know that as a young magician he wasn't charging much for his act. One day at a seminar, he wanted to attend the weekend workshop. He put a small down payment to hold the ticket. It was his rent for the month. He went home not knowing what to do or where he was going to get the money. He need $3k for the class. What did he do? He received a call from a referral. The new client was calling from La Jolla, CA. As he was talking to the lady about booking a birthday party, off the top of his head, he nervously told her that the cost of the party would be $1500... an hour. And, quickly added that it was a minimum of 2 hours. He also added, paid in advance There was a short silence on the phone. The new client explained that she didn't realize that it cost that much, but she would book the show if he would give her a signed contract. He affirmed that he would supply the contract. re: the Magician once you have a prospect who wants what you have on the phone it's much easier to close the sale. There's a restaurant I read about that has a $1000.oo ice cream Sunday. They actually sell them from time to time, apparently. Mentioned in Dan Kennedy's recent, well done book "Marketing To The Affluent". |

Wonder how many of those things he's actually sold. There was also a story on some very expensive hamburger, can't remember how much, but it was crazy expensive. |

There is such thing as perceived value and convenience to demographics. In this case it seems more of a convenience to demographics, that is if they're selling pizzas like this in an exclusive area. I can also see this easily selling in Beverly Hills... Frank Bruno |

Let's cut to the chase.... Here's what I know for sure...... 1. Nino has been selling this high end pizza for a while now...over a year. Got the Travel Channel to do an entire show on Pizza...featuring his joint. His story has been picked up by all the major news wire services et al.....and oh yeah...people DO buy this pizza. Does that really suprise any of you people???? 2.Truth. A certain percentage of the "affluent" population....lives to make sure the rest of the world knows they are in fact..."affluent." That's why we have a booming market for designer clothes, guggi bags, Rolex watches, and yeah...$1000 dollar pizzas. Like it or not. That's the reality. A good percentage of rich people want to kick the Jones Family out of the neighborhood by shoving their wealth in the faces of anyone who isn't quite sure how much money they make. Ego is easily exploited....if you "get it." And ...it's worth exploiting...cuz rich folks can be sold easier then poor folks...and often a hell of a lot more bling bling is involved. Capiche. That alone explains the success of this pizza...along with what Frank Bruno mentioned in terms of the physical location...as no doubt...certain areas of the country pimp this pizza better then others. 3. I'm more suprised that some of you didn't pick up on the fact all this massive press this guy got and gets...was simply generated via....taking a price that the Sheep all have stenciled in their brains in terms of "fair and normal"....and jacking it up nearly 100 times. That one little tweak...is all it took. Think about that. All this dude did....was take something that the world pays $15 to $20 bucks for...and changed the reality in an instant....and the press converged en masse. And the rest is history...cuz a $1000 dollar pizza is newsworthy....cuz who in the hell sells one? And who in the hell buys one? Pimping the media 101. The tabloid media society we live in....desperately wants to promote your product and/or service if you'se people would give them just about any compelling, interesting, radical reason to do so. But unfortunately....most would rather keep the status quo. Most would rather be politically correct...etc. Never do anything too extreme cuz it might get ya noticed etc etc. I just don't get that. In a way...I'm glad the masses think like they do. It opens up the doors to things like $1000 dollar pizzas......because the lemmings are so busy trying to conform with the way they always heard it should be....they leave the door open for those who are bold enough to be ORIGINAL. xxx Vegas Vince |
