PayPal and Aweber integration

Dear All,

Has anyone had issues attempting to connect a PayPal account (and a SUBSCRIBE or BUY NOW button) to an Aweber account?

My issue is this: I've worked on a site, simplified the buying process,
and tested the payment link and everything works fine. BUT ...

Aweber and PayPal don't appear to want to talk to each other.

The precess I've set up is as follows:

My buyer signs-up with name and e-mail (using a NON-Aweber form) and is then transferred to the payment page.

On the payment page they read the payment details, are offered an upsell AND an option to go for the straight payment option, (even if they bail at this point I've still captured their e-mail address).

Presuming the customer still wants the solution offered, by pressing the SUBSCRIBE button, they're taken to PayPal and redirected to the download page after they've completed their transaction.

All normal stuff so far.

HOWEVER ... the download page contains a download link that's password protected. The password is e-mailed to the buyer ONCE they've confirmed their download request in the thank you e-mail sent out from Aweber's integrated Paypal button.

When the buyer CONFIRMS their opt in via the thank you page, they are supposed to then AUTOMATICALLY receive a SECOND Aweber-based message that contains their download password. And every step of the way:
on the password protected page, in the confirmation e-mail and on the sales page the message is given to the customer loud and clear that the download is password protected.

The problem being that PalyPal is not seeing the Aweber link. I've contacted PayPal and as yet have not had a response.

However, I'd welcome ANY points from fellow WF members on snags or issues that you might have had with the same issue.

Is it pointless to protect the download with a password? Is this extra step
unnecessary? Is there ANOTHER way of serving the customer, obtaining their opt in, and protecting the content from people that haven't paid for it?

Any and all opinions are greatly appreciated. Thank you.

    hey Gary

Have you confirmed that they're put on the list in the first place?

If I'm understanding correctly, the Customer is to be sent the second email post-sale.. right? If so, my question would be how are you attempting to initiate that second email?

I think, and I'm not absolutely sure, (but the first place I'd look) its aWeber that might not be allowing the initial add to the list. They have a policy where they don't like "background posting" to their system; as it can be abused. So they push that the Prospect should 'physically' hit the aWeber site to confirm to the system that its an actual person and not a bot.

What I would do instead, (I think... 'cause I might be off base still), is set the opt-in form to go directly to aWeber and set the list's "thank you page" to be the initial sales page. I'm not an aWeber user so I'm not sure, but once the Customer is ON the list... it should be fairly easy to stagger that second email until after purchase confirmation... possibly via IPN script; (so you know for sure the transaction went through and is verified by PayPal to be true).

I'm thinking you should do this...

Sales page --> Payment page --> Optin Page --> Download page

    or

Sales process 1 (optin) --> sales process 2 (paypal) --> download page

    Hope that helped at all.

i agree with Kris. I would redirect the successful sale to the opt in page and then have the follow up message direct them to their download page or have their product attached to the email. No need for a password and your list would be comprised of 100% buyers.

If you had an upsell or oto you could redirect them to it after the first optin.

Thank you all. I think the logical answer is indeed to do away with the PayPal/Aweber integration and simplify the whole process.
