The Power of Press Releases

I'm about to start a press release campaign. I've heard of some seriously impressive success stories from people who have released PRs that hit Google news etc.

I didn't want to do a half-arsed job though. I'm a fairly good article writer already, so I'm not too keen on paying some one to write the PR. However I do want to pay for distribution. Any one got suggestions for PR distribution sites and the best prices?

I'd be interested to hear what you have to say about the potential success a good PR can have your SERPs.

I didn't give it it's due.... I tried it, using Daniel Tan's methods, but didn't really follow his rules. He even said, "don't just submit one or two PRs and expect everything to work. He suggests submitting MANY PRs.

    Good luck to you

    1. Do it.

    2. Do it often.

    3. Don't stop @ the PR distributor. Hand select industry targets and go out of your way to put it in those hands. Focus on offline, TV, radio etc.

Are you paying a premium? Or do you go with cheap/free services?

If your content is newsworthy and relevant you can get great results.

If you're just using them to promote a normal site because people have told you to - you're probably not going to see amazing results.

It's something too many people think they're missing out on and they just send out shallow sales pitches rather than newsworthy content and wonder why the miraculous results the latest sales letter they read said were possible didn't happen.

Unless you're saying something you know is hot right now - don't get too amp'd up about the results as you may not see much.

I agree... Having worked in broadcast and print journalism for many years, I can tell you that reporters get tons of press releases every day. 99.9% get thrown away because they're just not newsworthy.

Unless you have a product/service that is going to dramatically change people's lives, you're not going to see any media response from your press releases. I've seen way too many people who think they just write a press release about their new website, and boom!, reporters swoop in, do stories, and their website makes millions. It just doesn't happen

Now, if you're looking for good backlinks and a wide distribution service, press releases can work well.

I am starting to ramp up my own press release campaigns and am going to concentrate on free press release services rather than pay through the nose for PRWeb.

I know not every release is going to strike gold but for me it's about long term branding, exposure, backlinks and hopefully an occasional story that strikes gold.

I've got someone who works for me that is available to write articles. At the moment she focuses on articles that we use for article marketing. Is it worth moving over to press releases? Can you write a PR on absolutely anything, something that is hardly newsworthy and still see results?

And where do you submit? I've used PR.com: Directory of Businesses Jobs Press Releases Products Services Articles - Find Companies in the past.

      Appreciate your help, mate.

          Thanks very much.

So say I had 10 press releases. Would I submit each one to all of those PR sites? Is that common practice/good for SERPs/exposure.

You can try to write a press release on anything, but you need to try to work in a news angle, even if it is not particularly newsworthy.

Anything that is happening, or has happened can form the basis for a press release.

E.g. a forthcoming product launch, a new website, a blog post where you "uncover" something, a record sales day, a record traffic day, moving to a new office, getting involved in a charity event, sponsoring your local sport club, or whatever.

These can all make for good press releases but they will still have to capture the imagination of whatever media person who reads them to take them a stage further, such as publishing them on a major news site/newspaper, offering you a radio spot etc.

    Just give it a go...

At the very worst case scenario you will get some additional backlinks to your website.

    I hope this helps.

Brilliant. Thanks very much. I'm sure we can find some good news angles.

Oh, and when it comes to duplicate content. Is that a no no? Do you submit one unique article to one PR submission site only? Or can you just go around submitting your article to any PR site you want?

I haven't read through all of the other responses so apologies if this has already been covered but it will probably be easier if you set up your own accounts and do your own distribution. It can be time consuming but in the end, that is what will give you the most control over both the release and it's distribution. You should also take some time to send the release to non-PR-distribution outlets like your local media outlets and businesses in your local area that can benefit from whatever it is that you are promoting. Don't just focus on Google news picking you up--the more people that have access to your release the better!

If it helps - I'm into the IT field and need PR on a regular basis. I've got a PR contact that helps me out to write and distribute my campaigns. Charges a little extra but the guy's been at it for ages. PM me if you are interested and I will give you his email.

I highly recommend you look through the PR sites having said in this thread. Alternatively, other websites are really powerful to boost your press release power so why not check our comments out:

    http://www.warriorforum.com/main-int...ake-money.html

As for my experience in few of my PRs ever published, I've had few traffic too but have better results from commenting here in the forum. Better to combine the results then. Cheers.
