Help with stats on Internet Marketing

Just wondering if anyone knows any good sites or has some statistics on the effectiveness of having a website compared to traditional marketing methods, such as an ad in the newspaper...

Im putting a proposal together for a small business who might want a web site and Internet marketing, just wanted to show that their money is better spent on a website/internet marketing compared to say an ad in the newspaper...

Thanks for you help :-)

I can't imagine any business (even offline businesses) that can survive without an online presence.

This is very true. If you you own a brick and mortar store and don't have an online presence, you had better have a huge client base to draw from or you're toast!

A business can have an online presence without having an actual website...do i recommend it? no....but it can be done with use of Google Places / Local.....local & national directory sites, blogs, email campaigns, newsletters & the proper use of social media.....

For some internet marketing stats, try:

        emarketer.com
        techcrunchies.com
        kelseygroup.com
        thefuturebuzz.com

  • Sorry Olivia, but your question is just too broad. It's absolutely impossible to give you any meaningful answer or statistic with such a broad spectrum of answers and scenarios.

Websites have the potential to be so effective it's almost unimaginable. End of story.

    Hi Sylvia

I usually explain it to people that you can see the exact return on your money with internet marketing, you cannot do this very easily with a billboard.

If you have your statistics software correctly setup you can directly measure the amount spent to get a sale/lead.

If you have done previous campaigns with other companies this is very easy to show.

    Hi Olivia,

the response from offline marketing is going down the spiral, but still in some industries/locations is good.

So, what I do when dealing with offline clients is to ask them for feedback about how offline works for them, how they are organizing their marketing campaigns, if they have a budget for it or not... It is important to get a feel of how much they know to accommodate the language to them.

from my perspective, it is not a good idea to do a competition: online vs offline, but to position yourself as a marketing expert and include everything in the package.

the website needs to match the image of the company and their overall philosophy. Their offline marketing need to include their website and social media contact information.

I sell the idea of a website as a branch office that works for them on autopilot 24/7... they get very excited to see the comparison in costs of this branch compared to an offline one.

once you ask for the leads they get from offline advertising, then you can see the set of keywords you need to target and how much effort it will take you to match those leads. And you can round a proposal based on this.

Also please note that if you are proposing lead generation, and/or social media presence, you will have to make estimations of time/budget it will take them to deal with it.

Also look into all the hidden costs, like tech maintenance; and possible risks.

you don't talk about this in the presentation, but you can leave a booklet with everything or even if you prefer to leave it out, you need to be able to answer those questions.

    Hope it helps,
    Sandra

    Thanks for all your help!!!...

I am looking at creating websites only for a particular retail niche and only 10% of them have a website at this stage, there is 90% that dont...

Just wanted to be prepared before I go and speak to them....i was thinking more about stats like "43% of all retail sales made are expected to be influenced or made by the internet"...lol i just made that up, but on the lines of that...

Thanks again for all your help!

I can't speak to specifics, but I've always heard that the average for a family living in a home is 7 years. Most people become loyal to particular businesses if the business can grab them early.

With that being said most people search the internet now to find companies. I would take the approach for this to do some keyword research of how many people are searching for particular terms in the local market. Facebook ads is a good place to get this information as a lot of time Google adwords won't show information if the search is smaller like a lot of local search terms are. You can combine the two together and get a decent idea of what the search volume should look like.
