Free content vs paid content, what's best for them?

Hey guys

As I mentioned before, I've started a blog on a subject and I intend to make it one of the most helpful blog on that subject.

While I just write blog posts for now, in the future I intend to also create interviews, video and audio recordings, software, books etc.

Sometimes I hear that many people don't value what they're given for free and therefore may not even use the product (ex: not even skimming through it if it's an ebook.)

I have time to decide this but what would be the best for people that needs help that visit my blog. Will they recieve more value out of the stuff that I've created if I give it to them for free or if I charge for it? Is charging for it the best with their interest in mind?

What would your answer be if I told you that money wasn't an issue for me? (I'm not saying that it's not, I just would like to know what would be best for them.)

I think the best way is to aks your visitors. Do a survey, you can use survey monkey isn't it. Otherwise here we may tell you what we think which perhaps won't be what visitors to your blog think.

I could do that. But do they really know that themselves?

Maybe I should find a psychology or human behaviour forum and ask them there?

There is no definite way to tell what people may or may not find value in. Although, yes for the most part people underestimate free things.

I think it varies drastically depending on the content, the information and what exactly the person has to do in exchange for the "free" stuff that you are offering.

Yes - I do agree that a survey could help you a lot. We cannot tell or predict people's mind. Many people does not trust free information. It is because they were bound to wrong notion that free stuff are less quality than those paid ones.

Survey is the good option for you to test. Do a little bit of marketing of your product that you make for your visitors to check if it has the "Buying Potential".

Well, I believe it always depend upon the quality. There are some gurus who would always give freebies to their subscribers while some would always offer the paid ones on exclusive time. You could go for both!

Free content to get you started if you are a newbie.

Add in paid content over time as you can afford it.
