Why is it hard to optimize ebook sites?

I've noticed that in the last couple of years nearly everyone I know who did ebooks has not had much luck with SEO for profitable keywords.

Would that be because of Google not liking ebook sites altogether or because of lack of pages with content?

With all due respect, I can tell you from personal experience that this is not true.

You can rank sales pages in Google, go and Google: video marketing, you should find Video Assassin within the first 3 listings, its a sales page.

I'd like to see example. My e-book sites are highly profitable. And "e-book sites," as you call them, don't necessarily need to be sales pages or squeeze pages. You can have a large, content-rich website with a blog that is designed to sell your e-book.

You could check on Pat Flynn's report about optimizing your ebook and boosting sales in it just within your website without having it created on a separate page. This might really help you go through.

You would optimize a site that's meant to promote an ebook the same as any other site. Add content, get links. The problem is, most people don't know how to do this, because they've been taught the "salesletter/squeeze" approach is the only one that works. The truth is, hybridization between a solo sales page and a site with a footprint and linkbait will work just as well.

Fair warning: It's possible I'm arguing with you because I have nothing better to do.
